hi there, is the head unit changable?
is it possible to install a head unit with LCD screen?
seek advise?

Sure it is changeable!
But you will lose your audio controls on yr steering wheel.
I am sure many here will be able to advise you.
My preference will be the Alpine 98XX

I heard...i stress again..i HEARD... that the early batch of 9853/55 has motor problem. NOt sure the current shipment has the same issue.

I have the following questions and hope all brothers out there can help:
Q1: can the BMW CD Changer at the back of my E46 still be used together with Alpine HD?
Q2: how much will the Alpine HD cost including installation?
Q3: who is the recommended vendor selling and installing this Alpine HD?

Nope, Alpine HD is not compatible with the BMW CD changer.

BMW uses M-Bus for the CD changer, Alpine uses Ai-Net (for the CDA models). There is a converter that allows Alpine changer to be used on the stock BMW head, not sure if there is one the other way around...

Iceman, I saw this Alphine HU before in LD Auto, but not the equaliser, what model is that? What was the price you got for each of them? Also, like to check with you on the CD changer, possible to remove the CD changer and mod it to fit a 10" woofer?

That's not just an EQ. That's the 701 processor that does time alignment, DTS/Dolby decoding, active crossover, and 31 band EQ with presets.

Prices? Check in the market lah. Pay a lot more for agent set or a lot less for an export set.

10" in place of CD changer? You'll be changing a lot of original fittings, why do it? Unless you don't mind bashing thru all that original bracket and trunk carpet. For me, I rather have it on the other side.
