Hi,

Anyone can help me as to which air filter (not from BMW please) to change from my existing ride. My car had just turned 2 years and the response is getting very sluggish.

Also, it is time to change the tyres from the original run flat into something light and "useful". I am currently on this 225,45,17 size all around.

Thanks

Huh? Blame air filter, blame RFT, blame tyre's dimension?

Based on 1st para, it got sluggish after 2 years... so definitely not BMW's air filter issue, otherwise would have been sluggish 2 years ago... why put it as if it sux? Btw, carbon build up (exhaust, internal engine components, etc) and dirty CAT does cause sluggishness.

RFT not useful? U got to be a 'rubber' noob. The factory fitted RFT were used by rides like Ferrari, Porsche and likes as factory fitted too... so still useless?

What tyre that are not useful will be any from the category of High Performance Tyres and below. The factory's RFT are minimum Ultra High Performance Tyres or Max Performance Tyres... in the same league as Michelin Pilot Super Sport, just not as good because PSS is the current bench mark for tyre (non semi-slicks or slicks) brands to beat.

Hi,

Many thanks for the responses.... i used to have an E46 and I changed it to the KnN filter..... it was pretty "good" on top of the air intake that I got after that... too bad that i had to go with this current ride. As for the tyres, it is due for a change and the thought I have was that RFT is much heavier than normal ones. my current ride is a "virgin" from the factory under their care.

Useful is something that i like to switch from a normal safe family driver (over the weekends) and be myself on weekdays alone en-route to/from work. Really sometimes a Ku Niang and sometimes a rookie...

thanks Baby1M for the note.... i was driving the car for 2 years directly from the factory and it is now due for some changes and upgrades due to wear and tear.... PM has never changed my air filter and my tyres are getting bald already... hence time to do some maintenance or/and upgrade for replacement.

Cheers,
Spiderman

Bald tyres regardless of how good they were, will be performing less than desirable. So yups, get it changed. If going for non RFT, get the Michelin PSS or cheaper ones from the same league.

As for Air filter, after 2 years... what is the mileage? It is mileage that determines when to change but as a daily driven vehicle, after 2 years... it is about time to change it (likely too dirty to be desirable for optimum use). As for after market air filter, it is really a personal preference, some say Brand-A, some say brand-B, some say brand-C, I m among those who say stay with stock.

Cheers

Honestly, it is mainly due to the way you drive. Previously, my 9 yr old E39 520 could be driven like a wild mustang. It is on stock 16" wheel.

 a figment of your imagination right? I meant u drove it like a wild mustang but in reality, the ride performs like a pony going crazy yes?
