BM uses Castrol oil world wide, its a global procurement.
the actual contract is between BMW and BP. However, BP stops selling directly, hence it is passed to Castrol, Castrol repackage them and pass it to BMW as theirs. But BMW is one of the largest user of BP oil.
CaySman, what car are you driving? 10L? Humvee? some of the V8 engine i have seen only take 8 litres.

All new BMW models service count down has been reprogrammed to 12,000km instead of the former 25,000km due to our weather and driving conditions. So those that collected ur car since Sep/Oct 07 will have this new countdown period.
CaySman,
For the 3.6 Flatsix engine, the engine use about 10 litres of engine oil. For the 3.4litres engine, Stuttgard shld charged u for 9 litres of engine oil. Actually, the price of servicing is very reasonable at Stuttgard and generally about 10% premium over PML for the same type of work done but u got much better quality of service.
The RS4 V8 also uses 10 litres of engine oil per oil change too.
