Clunking noise from front

Whenever I go slow over rough road, there is a soft clunking noise from the front. Is it possible that the sway bar end links or drop links as they call in the US, are worn?

Anyone encountered this and if you had, what's the cost of replacement? Kam sia, kam sia...

Re: Clunking noise from front

i have clunking noise too previously and it's due to "strut mount" up lorry
it's easy to verify at workshop.
1st - jack up the front so that the front wheels are hanging in the air
2nd - steering wheel turn left+right
3rd - when the wheels are in the air, the mech will use finger to check/feel the strut mount to see any minor gap due to wear off rubber (generates clunking noise)

sway bar end links are not expensive. i think oem cost about $200+- for 2 x front and 2 x rear. if you wish, can change them too :D

Re: Clunking noise from front

i got the same problem with my 2005 320i (80k km) after a drive in the rain with some overweight person (not my wife) sitting in the front passenger seat. it went away subsequently. However, occassionally when i drive in the rain, it comes back again even though that person is no longer in the car.

I am now wondering if it was the weight or the rain which caused the sound...
