Complimentary PML engine bay wash?

Recently sent my car in for some warranty repairs on my E92 (ABS & traction control failure) and today while washing my car noticed that the engine bay is clean like the day I picked up the car from PML.

I know I didn't pay for the engine bay wash at PML, is it something usual to be done at PML?

Anyone experience this before?

Re: Complimentary PML engine bay wash?

Thanks for the fast reply, Terry. Never got it on my previous ride (also serviced at PML), so I was a bit surprised.

Re: Complimentary PML engine bay wash?

guess all the complain letters really made them rethink their service. hehe

Re: Complimentary PML engine bay wash?

Maybe the spilled something, had to wash

Re: Complimentary PML engine bay wash?

i don't think its standard procedure that they will washed the engine bay. observe on your next service see if it still cleaned...

they do try la. i actually saw the washer guys come out at around 5.30pm when the owners r here to collect their cars and do final touch up by wipping the windscreen and rims. thing is sometimes they do not change the clothe and its the same clothe across some 40 cars!!!

Re: Complimentary PML engine bay wash?

For me, engine bay always clean clean coz stock bonnet. Now with the VRS bonnet, a bit dusty underneath so I guess I should send it in for a service and see if they wash the engine bay. LOL. Stay tuned.

Re: Complimentary PML engine bay wash?

They will say vented bonnet warranty void complimentary wash also void

The engine bay is a quick 5 minutes job that most of you can do in case it gets dirty from time to time.

Cover up vital aftermarket parts like pod filters, exposed wirings etc. If engine bay is completely stock standard, there is no need to cover anything. Those of you who clean your MAF from time to time, make sure the bolts are securely tighten or if not you can use a plastic bag and tie a rubber band around it for added precaution.

PS* E9X M3 owners may want to put a plastic bag over their upper air intake vent. However if not covered, it is ok because there is drainage at the bottom before it enters the airbox. So as long you are not using high pressure.

Buy some engine degreaser, either aerosol (aweful odor, flammable) or citrus type and spray over Cold engine.

Wait for 2-3 minutes. Brush engine bay if extremely dirty. If engine bay is not that dirty, brushing is not needed.

Rinse engine with low pressure water. Dirt should come right off.

Start engine and let it idle for about 2-3 minutes to let engine bay warm up. Dry engine bay by wiping.

Please do not do the above when the engine bay is hot otherwise you will crack the exhaust manifold.

Hope this helps.

I'll do my E46 M3 some time this week and post some photos.

With regards to Aerosol type degreaser, it is best you do in well ventilated areas with proper drainage.

Drainage is especially important because if you allow the aerosol degreaser to dry on your garage, the odor will linger for about 1-2 days. In poor ventilation and high humidity, this will amplify the odor. On the other hand if it was a windy day, the odor should dissipate after rinse off.

Citrus is perhaps a more friendly product to use. The odor is air freshener-like so no complains there.

Only problem is that they usually come in 5L bottles which you may need to purchase a manual spray nozzle in order to spray on to hard to get areas.

With Aerosol type degreasers they usually sell in 300-350ml cans.

The can was depleted after I did 2 other cars. Not very economical.

I don't know what ppl usually put on the engine bay after wash that makes it shiny.. But I don't recommend that..

Looked clean for first few weeks but those things attracts dust..
