Hi... Just got the coolant warning light show up yesterday.. Can I know;
1. Can I just top up with normal water or distill water or coolant water
2. Where is the coolant locate in the engine bay? Do I need to remove the engine cover?

Re: Coolant warning

Top up with distilled water.

You do not have to remove the engine cover.

Location is in your car manual.

Re: Coolant warning

Open your hood and you'd see a white tank on the right. Open the cover and top it up. In my opinion, should be a leak or your expansion tank with the sensor is going bust. Check it at PML

Re: Coolant warning

Please only open the cover after your engine has cooled sufficiently. Best is do it in the morning before starting up. Prevent scalding. If you can still see coolant in the tank, most probably sensor kaput.

Thanks everyone.. The coolant tank is on the bottom left (black color) when I open the hood.. Is there a diff in the model and yr.. Mine is 523i F10 Y2010... Anyway went autobacs bought a BMW coolant liquid and top up... Need to mix 50:50 with water.. Saw that the coolant water had drop below the min marker.. Will monitor it for nw.. If if drop too fast will then bring it for a check

Re: Coolant warning

got this "top up coolant" message
car is f10 520i 2yrs 40k mileage
the coolant expansion tank is like a "ball" shape right
i see the coolant (fluid) is at MIN level where MAX level is exactly at the 1/2 mark of the tank (ball)

is it normal for coolant to be that low for 40k mileage nia

can i just top up or must flush and load in brand new coolant?

top up coolant into this tank right?

Re: Coolant warning

Just top up.

Usually I just top up with distillated water.

Mine needs about 100-200ml every few thousand km.
