Cost for Enginer Overhaul for E90 LCI

Hi,

Needed advise.

Notice rattling sound from engine today.

Went to a workshop to inspect.

Was told bearing inside engine was damage. Need to do an engine overhaul.

Total damage 4k -5k and car down about 10 days.

Can advise if quoted price is reasonable? Seem very ex.

Mine is E90 LCI. 2010 model. 88k mileage.

Hi, Sad to know that your engine is making rattling noise. Always take a second opinion before you go for it and for a bmw which ran only 88k , the brgs cannot wear out that fast. Think of overhauling only after touching 2k unless you ran w/o engine oil, coolant exception case.So go for IInd opinion , dono where to take? let me know , i will help.

Ws told me i need a top and bottom overhaul. 10days down and $7k. Just for rattling sound in engine? I think too ex. Anyone can share and advise me? Tks.

Best to go other WS for quote. Quite sure WS cannot tell you exactly how much until they open up engine as something else could be broken causing noise, but should be able to give you a ballpark $.

Top and bottom overhaul? Top will be valves,cams,cyl. head and bottom will be crankshaft and brgs, so wkshp not sure from where the sound is coming from. according to him is cr,brgs, then why top overhaul? go for IInd opinion.

Wow! At $7k might as well check with PML. At least they have all the equipment and give warranty for their works. Munich another option.

how is it going? at high rpm is the rattle getting worse ?

surprising the noise is from low rpm, after you let go your gas. like some loose things inside your engine.

I believe some parts or bearings broke off and it is rattling inside the engine that cost the sound.

Will feedback after repair.

Can try JB workshop, cost will be much cheaper like 50%. Parts and workmanship no different from Singapore WS. Go search for engine overhaul threads in E9x threads. PM me if you need contacts.
