Cost of doing a transmission oil change

Re: Cost of doing a transmission oil change

Pml doesnt change the oil... as it believes it is long life oil and not serviceable.

Wats the mileage that PML expects us to change to maintain warranty?
Dun wanna go out change at 60k only to realise that its part of the 60k servicing package with them.
Thats y looking to do early. My mileage is 30k.

By the way, most outside workshops quote between 450 to 700.
Wonder if its the different tranny oil they use that causing the gap.

PML don't recommend ATF fluid change as they claim it's lifetime, which technically is 100k miles or 160k km.

You can do ATF change early like 40k km - 50k km. no harm changing early.

Re: Cost of doing a transmission oil change

I do a lot of urban driving, so change at 30k due to a lot of start stop.

Re: Cost of doing a transmission oil change

i used to buy the zf transmission oil for me e60 from eng soon and atf filter aka pan and it cost around 200 plus i think. another 150 for labour from a old skool workshop for oil change so total about 400plus. ask pml during my 40k servicing for my 8sp and was quoted 1.2k. the se ask me change outside better lol. pml charging per litre 120 i think... even show me the screen. i ask is 120 for 1 litre or 6 litre lol

Re: Cost of doing a transmission oil change

After mkt oil better or bmw one better?
As I use Motul for engine oil im looking to use Motul ATF.
Motul engine oil really makes e engine damn smooth so im expecting e same for their ATF.

Most importantly, does our 8sp box requires any proprietary oil similar to vw/audi's dsg

It is not advisable to use what is not recommended ATF.

Re: Cost of doing a transmission oil change

Best to stick to stock bmw fluids. Just ask from the stockist with your chassis #

Re: Cost of doing a transmission oil change

Use either BMW or ZF oil ...........

Tried after market oil ...... When I monitored the transmission - Too thin - temp goes up. Too thick ..... shifting is weird.

If really want after market than look at the specs of the Motul and the original ATF and see the variance.

Re: Cost of doing a transmission oil change

PML SA told me to change ATF at 60k but not more than 70k. MA SA told me they do not recommend changing of ATF but if owner insists, then will need to sign a indemity form against gearbox failure. I wrote to BMW Asia for advice but no reply yet.

This is a topic that is discuss for eons already. Since BMW said ATF does not require change, I doubt BMW Asia will reply to u.

Re: Cost of doing a transmission oil change

Since PML ok ... Then do it at PML.

It is not about where to change the ATF but the advices provided did not make any technical sense. We all know that oil change is always good but why it should not be done after 70km, as advised by PML? MA lagi strange, must sign indemnity form to change ATF. Anyway, I spoke to BMW Asia and they explained that the gearbox is very sensitive to the ATF and as long as the original ATF is used, there is no harm changing the oil at any time but there is no recommendation to change.

Re: Cost of doing a transmission oil change

BMW defined lifetime is 100k in one of those TIS. The other thing is that any WS is worried about shocking the seals in a GB if the mileage is high.

And they are 2 types of GB - ZF & GM. Hearsay GM has a tendency to give more problems after an atf change. Google that......

Re: Cost of doing a transmission oil change

Hi guys

After reading this tread, change or not change though?
I am clocking at 76K now, can't decide whether to do it or not.

If change, which workshop can you guys recommend?

Cheers!

Quite simple, are you going to keep your car for few more years?

If you intend to, by all means go change it as preventative maintenance.

I just did my 2nd ATF flush on e90 at 40-50k km interval with other repairs.

Just make sure your WS that knows bmw and also reset your tranny after ATF change (to tell it you got new ATF fluid).

Any of the sponsor WS listed in here eg. R2D, BVO, etc can do it.

Re: Cost of doing a transmission oil change

I checked the ZF office in Singapore and they gave me this contact. Jackson Powertrain. They quoted me $680 excluding taxes as will need about 8 litrs of ATF fluid. The mechanic I spoke to did not specifically say how often to change just said that normal cars should change every 40K.
