Cross v PSS9

Re: Cross v PSS9

There is one OG dept store at Bugis

Re: Cross v PSS9

IMHO, once we decide to over write OEM stuff of our rides (which the manufacturers' engrg & design spent years designing and planning) and modify with aftermarket pdts ...be prepared.

Most of us did it cus of "hearsay n butt feel" . While some mods have been proven for the better, some do have problems developing over time. As with all items, some unluckily will happen to be the owner of a problematic piece which other can't identify with...that's life.

My cross currently has a "BIRD" residing in it and it happily goes chirping away whenever I go over humps..Tis is the first, I believe, for Guys @ BVO and look like i got to down the front set to locate the "NEST" while fellow bros on CROSS are still happily humping away in comfort.

So be it whatever the brand..the more important question is, what is it u are after ?

Cheers

Re: Cross v PSS9

PSS9 - imho is very good but only upto a certain extent, like agressive cornering/ driving on s'pore -m'sia road ...if u wanna track yr car often then i say give them a pass as u will outgrow it ...its fine when u r a newbie setting it 1 or 2 ..but after awhile it aint hard enough/firm enough and u will find something lacking in there which is the double adjustment of rebound/compression. PSS( only has one which is at the bottom..its easy tho to adjust and thats something u must consider.

Im not sure if Cross is dual adjustable or not but if u a nut case like me (im on kw clubsport) who like to fark around with these things fm time to time (think abt the rear top suspension - how r u goin to adjust it?) dont forget most beemer have a nice hard covering which u have to remove (which is a bloody pain) evertime u need acccess the top to fiddle with it. For me i just cut a portion of the covering so i can just dip my hand.

Jazz i know which OG la..i dont think its the one at Bugis but the one at Chinatown...bloody bumpy and its a corner entering into CTE ...nice !! hammer yr cbaby round there ....i blve Ken will agree as well ...lol

Re: Cross v PSS9

Thanks for the info, I reckon PSS9 will do an old fart like me! Don't have the courage like I used to have on the track or the time to justify the additional US$800 or so for the parts.
The price (US$) of the complete front and rear coilover kits from the net. PSS9 for E36 cheapest I found was $1500 and the cheapest JIC was $2300.
I am on stock at the moment on an E36 I bought cheap off SG carmart. I was going to tinker with the engine and tranny first but the steering is sloppy and the ride is more like a kids bouncy castle than precision German engineering. When I had a look underneath I was convinced about the urgency of the situation.
I have a couple of weeks off in Jan so am going to replace the whole front and rear suspension and steering. Don't believe in doing this in bits, false economy in time as well as cash.
BTW does any one know where I can pick up a couple of extra 2 ton axle stands in Singapore can't find em anywhere!

Re: Cross v PSS9

acupunch is on pss9. we both went up to sepang the last trackday.. he took a ride on my car on which i have the cross suspension. think we were both on medium settings. he did mention that my car was more level on turns and was able to keep a more aggressive line without having the car lose control/skid/drift. (but need to factor in that i also have anti roll bars, whereas he did not).

i've also driven up and down NS highway, first time on KWV2.. which was quite scary because at high speeds, after u drive over a hump or bump, the rebound sensation makes your car jump up and down a few times before it settles.. worse so if you encounter a few bumps in succession.. felt like i was on a trampoline!

second time on cross suspension, it was a more enjoyable and more controlled journey. car settles immediately after each bump/hump, and felt my car was more planted to the ground at all times.

my 2 cents..

Re: Cross v PSS9

Allow me to say something here... I have tried BCs... PSS9s and of course the CROSS Competition suspension...

In order to fullfill my requirement of having a setup for the occasional visit to Sepang... The CROSS made a whole lot of difference... 12kg for frt and 10kg (spring rates are available for your requirements) for the rears... sure made a whole lot of difference... One hump, one bounce... Built quality is top notch... plus you get a set of camber plates with the kit. They are only adjustable one way... special valving in the shocks make up for the rebound adjustments...

In a nutshell... these coilovers have done exactly what they were designed for... HANDLING with a little sacrifice n comfort... well worth it when you consider the smile on your face after your drive once they have "settled in"....

Re: Cross v PSS9

So to sum it all up, cross handles better than PSS9.

But PSS9 has a wider range of setting.

And the cross is more comfy than the PSS9.

Correct me if im wrong...

Cross handles better than PSS9....yes, far better
Cross has wider range of setting than PSS9....15 vs 9
Cross is not as comfy as the PSS9

Agree. Cross is definitely not as comfy but that's where the "good stuff" comes in... You can feel the little bumps and I mean every bump on the road. Does get a bit frustrating along stretches of roads big construction trucks use regularly but you can't beat the handling...

Think it depends on what setting u r talking abt. I ve sat in an E92 set to 7/7 on the cross, it feels ok. At 8/8 well some uncomfortable was felt on sensitive bantark.
