Help me out here please. What exactly do you mean "the darn transmission is retarded'?

Before DMS or after adding DMS? All E60's or has the problem been fixed in newer models?

What exactly is wrong with the transmission?

Oh yes, 1 final question, where can I get Rob's magic fitted?

oh... the engine torque and all with rob's magic is great.. the problem with e60 is the gearing management.. gear shift response is retarded to kick down in D mode. Grrr! that is my only beef with e60 after driving it for so long.

Wait for rob to make his round in the region... probably he is due here soon. Some forumers here are in constant contact with him so they probably can share with you his travel plan or simply drop him an email.

Hi,

The IS250 is in 6 gear by 40km/h, that's why FC is quite good, 11km/l even with low avg speed.

Thanks!

Hi opvaulet

I seriously doubt the IS250 is in 6th gear at 40km/h. The engine will be vibrating if it is not already close to stalling. Unless the engine has monster torque from 1,000 rpm and a very short gearing. Which is highly unlikely since that engine makes its power pretty high up the rev range.

Read from 2 different mags that the IS250 does not show the actual gear it is in but rather it shows the "next" gear that it might be in.

any upgrades for the N52 3.0L engine? ? If yes, count me in too!

Re: DMS ECU chipping update thread

HI,

My mistake, wasn't wearing my reading glasses last time. but it does get into 6th by 60km. As for the in gear reading, many reviewers did not realise there is a current gear display as well. In fact, its very interesting to see this at work. Also, the IS does have very short gearing, final drive is 3.91. As its an automatic with a torque converter its not 'locked up' so the are no vibration. In fact the engine is amazingly vibration free. Anyway gearing works well for sg roads. Friend's stock IS G-teched at 0-60mph in 7.8 secs. I drive a bimmer; it sounds faster than the IS but in reality my wife's IS is very much quicker, but sounds serene.

Rob has fedback that he is currently working on the 523, 323 engine. He has gotten 16bhp from it so far, work is of course far from done. There's a possibility that interested owners can get this so-called Stage 1, 16bhp upgrade first, then when he's done milking the rest of the engine's potential, go in for an upgrade later. Dunno if this will interest anybody.

can you get comparative torque maps for the 16bhp upgrade versus stock?

what's the cost and does it include 'free upgrades' if more horses are found and released later ? Given that this sounds like a beta release, it would make sense if the initial price is lower than the eventual release, and of course upgrades provided up to the standard release at least.

on a separate note, can you find out from Rob what are the real technical differences between the x23 and x25 engines, and wither actual parts replacements mods are available to close the gap.( accompanied with the relevant software of course). in time, i'd expect re-con parts to be available from germany etc.

given the price breaks in singapore between the x23 and x25, I'm sure there is a huge market (inlcuding a "sleeper" used car market that would come to life) if DMS could find a way to bring the X23 closer to the X25.

someone brought up the point about transmission upgrades or the lack thereof: I realised that on my vw 1.8T I upgraded the ECU chip AND the Tiptronic Chip. The Tiptronic Chip is the gearbox chip and the upgrade actually makes shifting gears faster from like 1" to 0.2" if i remember correctly.

Not sure if BMW works in the same way, but I'd suppose that ECU remapping includes tweaking gear change points.
