door scratches: high downtime for fix?

Car got scratched on the rear door, 3 scratches, not very long but pretty deep cos you can feel the groove. Wax isn't helping either. If I caught the b*stard who did it (car park at Tanglin Shopping Centre) I would have used my key to scratch 3 marks into his face. And they'd be longer and deeper than the crap he pulled on the car...

OK, revenge fantasies aside, have been reading some posts and seems like the most likely solution is to send it in for a spray paint job. Also seems like Mike from SWC is the one of the top favs. Anyone know how long this will take? A day? (anybody know the going price for a door respray for a 3er?)

I'm thinking of waiting a while before getting it done, or maybe trying some touch up paint and sending it to the groomer to see if I can live with this relatively cheaper solution. My main concern is, should I be worrying about rust if the scratch seems pretty deep? (Rainy season lah) Cos if I don't, I'll fix it a little later rather than rushing to get this done.

not that fast man...if u going to mike..better make appointment and it will take at least 2 days...they have to sand down your whole door.. respray and put clear coat on it

Melo, I have the same scratches on my driver-side door. 3 deep, short and parallel scratches.

I have been wondering what that farker used to create the scratch.

Did not get it at Tanglin though.

Yew Lip told me it is a one- to two-day job, but I have been bearing with it for few weeks.

Hi Terry

It must be the big SUV or MPV. I always avoid parking next to them. I also got mine once in a carpark. Really angry but now get used to it.

nowadays sometimes i try to find a safe spot.. or even park 2 lots...... im not a parking idiot.. my inconsideration starts because of inconsiderate people... 1 month get at least 1 door ding... knnb

be careful when u do that, ppl might scratch ur car cos they get pissed. My mom parked the car in a lot next to a staircase, so there's officially only one lot? but some ppl will try to squeeze and park next to you anyway. My mom tends to park the car slightly out of the lot to prevent these idiots from squeezing next to her illegally (and maybe put a ding in the car while they're at it). I supect the idiot in my case scratched it cos he couldn't park next to our car. Bloody frustrating cos it's a single lot!!!! You're not supposed to feel cheated out of a lot when there IS no lot!

These vandals better not let me catch them, even on someone else's car! If I ever catch one that idiot will feel the full fury of my accumulated anger.

Kenntona: looks like its a 2 day job at most places. Maybe i'll get some touch up paint first, respray at a later time. Though I don't like catching glimpses of the scars... "sim tiah"

Thanks for the info everyone!

these ppl are just idiot. if u r not happy, talk to the owner. they are just cowards!!
scratch = hurts!

Re: door scratches: high downtime for fix?

basically i park the lot that nobody wants... right at the other end... where u have to walk the most... less chance of people moving in and out of the lot next to you.... unless carpark full... then boh pian...

Re: door scratches: high downtime for fix?

I used to do that too but not safe too. There are those coward do it at such quiet place too. So no where is safe actually. Maybe all carpark should have all the big SUV and big MPV park at special designed lots. Hope I do not create problem here but usually the MPV carries many children/people and when the moment they parked the MPV, their doors will just spring out without realising what is next to it. Maybe MPV are higher so they cannot "feel" it and that is where it create all these "ding" on cars next to it. I saw even adults do that especially they have prams and many things in their hands.

One of my friend changed this car to a SUV and told me that now he is not worry about all the "ding" any more. He used to have the same fear like us.
