Hi All,

Anyone encounter this issue?
Overtime start up the car, this msg will pop out.
Send to PML, they claimed nothing was wrong.
But the msg keep coming out every few days.

My warranty ending, so hopefully to solve the problem before it really end..

TIA..

Re: Drivetrain issue

Dun worry ... everything they say nothing wrong.

PML is useless .. get it done outside to save your life ...

Oh yah ... pls get PML to give you a writing that this is normal... then send it to bmw ag cc asia ... then pml will call you again ...

they are just not honouring their responsibilities as per warranty so why buy from pml ?

I am preparing something for pml to put it on stomp ...

Re: Drivetrain issue

Thank bro..
But what is actually the prob here?
My dad 740i encounter the prob as well. 2 weeks sent in 5X, each time claiming no issues.
Their service really suck now..

Re: Drivetrain issue

This is most likely the ignition coil or the spark plugs. Go to an outside workshop to get it check and replaced. My friend's 523 just encountered the same error msg and he went to a local workshop to have his ignition coils replaced. The car is ok now.

What car are you driving btw?

Re: Drivetrain issue

go to a few outside bmw workshops and pay to do a few inspections.
if really got problem , show report to pml.
99% they will entertain you.
1% will be that day you unlucky.

Re: Drivetrain issue

Hi Bro,
Just experience the same problem as you when this warning popped up on me on Monday (3/11/14). I too am on the F20 116i with it currently in MA.
Will update you the finds thereafter.

Fingers crossed... toes as well.:silenced:

Re: Drivetrain issue

drivetrain = engine related. Very generic fault.

Sometimes it won't register a fault if the condition is transient.........but if the tech look more closely they can find the info needed to narrow down the scope.

Re: Drivetrain issue

My ride got the msg again on Mon (23rd Feb).

This time, something got worst.
Speed can't go above 40km/h, and whole car shaking violently (especially during idling)

Got a tow truck to send in the car on Mon night.

Finding from PML on tues morning was Ignition Coil & Spark plug damage.
According to the adviser, it is due to wear and tear.
I have been doing my regular servicing every 7-8k instead of 10K. Everytime i asked if there is a need to change plugs, the answer was always no. As the plugs could last 50K. Now only 40K the plugs give way.

Here come the best part of PML, my warranty end in Jan this year, so everything is owner paid.
I sent in my car to before warranty end to check on the Drivetrain issue.
At that time, the result was there is only a software issue.
After warranty ended, it became spark plug and coil issue.
When qns them, the ans was, "system did not detect these issue at that time" so this is diff case.
And i was told, even if u are still under warranty, these part damage, is owner to pay themselves as these are "Wears & Tears part"
From the adviser, Drivetrain Error msg is just a General msg. So when this pop out, send in for them to diagnose is the best.

For those that wanna know, when the bills is here, they not only charged u the parts and labours, Diagnostic test and troubleshooting cost is all paid by u...

Re: Drivetrain issue

Great round of applause to PML SA for taking the effort to delay/avoid the repair and successfully held it till warranty ends.

Re: Drivetrain issue

Depending on which mechanic you get, the approach would be different. Broadly has 2 type - the physician type and coroner type.

Physician type will take measurements and tell you better do this or that else something will spoil (prevention is better than cure).

Coroner type will tell you why your car died on you especially when tow truck needed. Then replace the part that started all the problem and all the parts affected by it.

People that believe prevention is better than cure would like the physician type. People that believe in unlocking the maximum financial value from their investment in the car (only if die die necessary then repair) would like the coroner type.

When the mechanic's approach is incompatible with the client's philosophy - complains will occur. E.g Coroner mechanic gets assigned to a prevention is better cure type customer.

On the other hand - A physician type mechanic is sometimes perceived as trying to carrot customers (especially when diagnosis is done without tools).... Especially customers that believe in the highest financial ROI. Again more complains.

One suggestion is to get a second opinion with a WS that you have a relationship (understands you) and get a suitable mechanic assigned to your ride.

Just some random thoughts .....

Re: Drivetrain issue

Hi there,

This drivetrain error, if u look or diagnose will come out PB00BD error meaning the air intake from the charge pipe or from the air intake (there is a leaking, may be not tight enough). Hope this will help.

2 Jul 2016 - collected 218i
18 Nov 2016 - drivetrain error message on TPE during peak hour!!!

:( Wonder how long PML will take to correct this issue ?
Says a lot about the ultimate driving experience!!

24 Nov 2016 - car still with PML.

which centre u send to ?? ask for replacement car from them...

That's very bad and inefficient service

to be fair... they gave their explanations which sound reasonable to me.. so while waiting, i enjoy my replacement car lor..

time to ship parts... testing, etc...

my only concern is, will this problem be coming back AFTER warantty.. ??
