Drivetrain malfunction: wastegate issue

Hi,

I am driving a 318i model. I had been informed that my drivetrain malfunction is due to waste gate issue and I need to replace the turbo. This is very costly. My basic understanding is that we can adjust or replace the waste gate actuator instead of the whole turbo unit. But was told that this is a temp fix.

I am struggling to understand why can't we adjust the actuator rod or replace the actuator only.

Does anyone had any experience on this issue and could advise if this is the correct process?

Thank you

Hi William,

thank you for your input.

Meaning its the physical wastegate that has become worn hence any tightening would be useless?

what will be the cost? Can this be reconditioned?
