Drivetrain problem

While driving halfway, message with a car picture and the word Drivetrain beside it appeared.

What could be the problem?

It means there’s is an engine related problem ...

Sent in for a check. Mechanic can't find anything wrong. Did a system reset and everything back to normal. Hmmm.

The same message came up again yesterday but went off after I restart engine. Send for diagnostic and no fault code. Question is, is the message trying to tell us that something is not right? Yet how can we zoom in to what's wrong when there is no fault code. I read that there are many possibilities. So is there anything preemptive that can be done rather than wait for a full breakdown before we can do something to it.
Thanks

Why don;t you get a 2nd or 3rd opinion?
Or try R2D? The review in this forum is mainly positive and term him a guru of BMW.
Scanning of fault codes may not tell you the complete story. Experience and knowledge from human still plays a big part since machine is not able to think out of the box.

Whenever that message come up - there will always be a code. It could be a shadow code.

Not sure why mechs think that clearing the fault logs would make things better. I give my mechs an earful when they do that because it makes my life harder in diagnostics.

Anyway - as a last resort - compare the set point readings to actual readings for the different components of the engine. Something will always turn up ...

Which workshop u sent to? Diagnostic tools is meant to simply the diagnostic and technician need to know how to use it properly. Most trouble-shooting needs to be back to basic, i.e. Step by step checks
