Dear all ,

I am thinking of driving up north with my family this school holiday . I used to drive up with a japanese car and have no issue with it , but driving up with a BMW make my heart pump a little faster .
What is your feel , Any brother here often drive up ? Maybe can share ..
I use to like driving here there and stop where i wanna stop.

Re: Driving up north with your BMW

No worries, I drive up to KL 2 to 3 times a year. Driven a Wish, Tiguan and now my E60. My heart does pump faster from the adrenalin the 525 in line 6 can do on the NS Highway:shock: other than that, no worries.

If you are referring to carjacking, my advice is to remain inconspicious. It doesn't matter what car you drive, as many recent cases have proven. Don't be too flashy with what you wear. Always park at places where there are a lot of human traffic at rest stops. Don't hang around the car too long. Get to your car, all pax get in, lock doors start engine and move off.

Reach hotel, dangle a RM$100 or RM$50 to the valet and park your car right in front of the lobby. DON'T PASS THE VALET YOUR KEY. Take cab when moving around KL.

My two cents worth.

I'm thinking of driving to melaka. Very last time I go there with my toyota, it took me 3.5 hours of safe journey. I wonder with bimmer can reached there within 2 hours anot. :chinese:

Re: Driving up north with your BMW

2 hrs definitely can drive through melaka city liao

Last time, My fastest record ( Hope no PDRM spy here) was 2.5 hrs from Sg besi toll to Tuas. In a VW Passat 2.0

Re: Driving up north with your BMW

It takes me about 3 hours to reach KL without stops. Its not the car bro... its the driver. My KL friend does KL to SG in 2.5 hours in Estima with one rest stop. He does avg 160 kmh to 170kmh. But not advisable for SG drivers as we are not used to that kinda speed for long periods of driving.

That's really fast for MPV. I did wittness a MPV capsized before leaving the driver lying on the road subconsious and 3 year old sitting beside mother crying.... All becos of one kuku lady driver cut into their lane while he's speeding. no joke, is at NSHW as help don't come fast...

Re: Driving up north with your BMW

drive safe.. I ll have put my speeding days behind me.
No point when your scared the shit out of your pants driving like a maniac at 160-180 kph to reach the destination 30- 60 minutes faster.
Life is short but dont shorten it yourself

Re: Driving up north with your BMW

Agree... go there to have fun. Not to stay in hospital or worse come back in a box.

Re: Driving up north with your BMW

Hi I drive up often. One issue for me is the lack of a spare tyre which left me stranded on the North South highway...

They sell tyre repair kits but take note most do not repair a sidewall fracture of the tyre. You may wana address this issue if your car has no spare.

Re: Driving up north with your BMW

This the reason why i think of keeping the RFT tyres...

Re: Driving up north with your BMW

1 and half hours...reach ayer keroh tool junction. Malacca not far...KL only 2 and half hours! Driving to Malaysia, parked at hotel then take cab lor...that's what I always do...if you are fast driver...sure safe, if you are driving like tourist, sure kena...especially those wajas...or perdana...will tail gate you...then u very jia lat liao....make sure keep some safety equipment in car...not knife but steering lock...

Lone driver not an issue...make sure don't drive at night...tangkak road very dark and dangerous...a lot of small rocks flying at night...just beware...

Me going end of Nov too. Head to legoland first then on to malacca for 2 nites. Will most prob using my bro's old tucson. Drive slow also never mind, but must enjoy and safe come back.

Just make sure DO NOT leave ANY ELECTRONICS items in the car, NOT EVEN in the boot! Phone, laptop, GPS etc.

I kena window smash before twice. once laptop, once phone +GPS, all were hidden from view. They now very high tech, use battery detector. My colleague also kena laptop, together with 4 surrounding cars, at Tesco Johor. Somemore ALL their laptops is inside the BOOT! They just smash the window, climb inside, and release boot catch. All within 2-3 minutes. Malaysian cars also not spared!!
