DSC warning light

Hi, I have a facelifted e46 and just recently my telltale light and brake warning light came on and remained permanently yellow. The warning lights remained on even after i turn off the engine and restart the car. According to the manual, could be that the DSC, DTC or DBC are defective.

Anyone experienced this before, and is it serious? My e46 is only 1.5yrs old, so fortunately it is still under warranty but i am surprised it should give trouble so soon (or at all) :mad:

The EML, Traction control and the Handbrake light will come on for a lot of reason, from physical DSC pump failure to just a sensor that is not working or even low voltage on the battery.

Since your car is only 1.5 years, send it to PML and they will fix it relatively quickly. Don have to worry too much.

i just had this exact same problem last week on my e46 ... was driving and suddenly both lights came on. needless to say i got worried, called up their emergency service hotline and was told to send in my car the very next day. after spending 3 days in the workshop i was told the problem was fixed ( they didnt tell me what the problem was, how it occured or how they fixed it ... and yes i did ask but the technician wasnt around and the salesperson was deflecting arrows) ... and after just 1 day of driving it ... the exact same thing popped up! sent it in again and after some pressure they got it fixed the next day ... this time they told me that after changing the parts previously .. something went wrong with the sensor and thats why the stupid light came on ...

i dont think this really helps your problem tho but fyi la .. plus the pml people told me its safe to drive with the 2lights on ... not sure how true that is ... but they say wudnt have been a problem ...

when is PML going to learn about customer service? the atititute is the same all the time. keep the car there for long period of time. don't tell you what's wrong with your car and what have they done. and the problems usually comes back after some time. had my car in the workshop 5 times after only 3 months old (E90) and still the problems are there.

Its a great car to drive but not the level of quality you expect from a luxury brand. least PML can do as the sole agent is to be honest about it and try harder to solve the problems. ignorance and avoidance seems to be their service motto.

I'm driving a E90 too (3mths old as well). Can you pls elaborate on yr problems? My vehicle is also having a service counter problem. Instead of counting down from the initial 25,000 km, the figure keeps going up. According to the counter, I now have another 34,000 before my car requires servicing. I have sent it back to PML before but they don't have a solution.

They said they would get back to me when the engineers have found out how to solve the problem.

I believe the E90 has a condition based service indicator, i.e. distance to next service is determined by your driving patterns?

at first, I thought that was the case but when the svc indicator kept increasing, i realised that something is wrong ie. the condition of the oil cannot keep improving. I've only done abt 4,000 km so far...

jooggie - sorry for late reply, been away for 2 days. my biigest problem was wind noise above 100 kmph. after many visits, including one where thet kept my car for 4 days, PML finally applied some sealant to the windscreen. that had reduce the wind noise alittle but its still there. One of the regular forumer on E46 advised - turn on the volume of the radio cause PML will take forever to fix it. They just ask you to keep bringing in your car to the workshop until you give up. that's what happen to me already. other problem - squeaky windscreen wiper, rattling noise from third brake lite. all these cannot be resolve despite going there so many times.

Server counter, yes I notice the bugger going up as well. It was supposed to be 25k for service but out of the blue it was 27k one day and now its back to 25k - but my car has already done 7k. i just ignore and sent the car in when the odometer reads 25k, or maybe earlier to change oil as others had advise.

having said all that, our problems are small compared to Janson. (read 1 day E90). I suspect the highight on the lemon law to protect consumer was largely due to his case.

Read somewhere else that the service indicator interval on the OBC is dependent on fuel consumption and not oil quality?

Some forumers point out that regardless of what the OBC says, you shld change your oil every 12 or 24 months. not sure if that's right.

if any consolation, all e90s seem similiar. mine has gone to 27k from 25k.

Yes, you should change your oil after about 12 months or so, that is if it has not been changed so far. It is regardless of what was read on your OBC.

Imagine, a car that is VERY under-utilised may clock 25km only after 2 years.
Over time, oil may get corroded, somehow. not gonna be good if that happens.

just my 2baht worth...
