E30 had a slight accident but all's well now...

Travelling down on wed. nite, with some heavy rain on the roads, doing my own thing...
Long story short, made a nice right turn, car in front cut into my lane, turned more to the right to avoid, car wasn't happy, decided to chop my head off... It became a fish in the rain... Over steer to the right, countered, left go of throttle, front end suddenly regained grip, violently swung over to the left, countered, even more energy swung the car right again, spun the car, brakes were of no use cos the car was already aquaplanning, held onto the steering and prayed, WHAM! hit the kerb on the right rear wheel and again on the front right wheel. (I guess they made DSC for a reason..haha)

(For a simple lookie at what happened, CLICK HERE )

Made a last prayer that nothing's wrong with the car... (with thoughts of broken rods and everything in my mind) in case u guys are wondering, i'm pretty much fine cept for a bit of shock... But not that bad really... Oh well......

Switched on the hazard lamps, killed the engine,
Got out of the car to inspect the damage, front lip popped out, rear right wheel was heavily dented, front right wheel had a Deep Dent size of a 50cent coin...

But amazingly, everything else was fine. No dents on the bodywork, nothing. Car was still running fine. My Initial D moment into the kerb i guess...

Picked up the front lip, threw it into the boot and drove off to a more empty road. Got out again to inspect the car, managed to pop the front lip back in...

What a night~!!!

Drove off, rear end made funny knocking sounds. Next day morning , swapped the spare tyre over and did some temp. repairs to the rims.

The damage was mainly to the rims. 2 rims were dented. 1 of them was dented beyond repair, about 1/4 of the rim was dented in. The other 1 was knocked back for temp. use.

But, BIG THANKS to forum member Ninja07, really really BIG Thanks! Met up with him the next day, and bought some E30 rims off him. (E30 rims are really really really hard to come by... trust me on that)

So, today, went to fix the new rims in. 17". Some rubbing on full lock, but everything else was OK. Really appreciate ur help Ninja07! Sorry for the urgency...

This morning (Sat.) went down to J4C to get the car checked and swap the rims. Everything seems ok and alignment was done once again. First time i got to see the undercarriage of the car. Interesting stuff. The new rims gives the car a very different look. Guess i'll get used to it.

Front lip i'm not too bothered becos a week ago i have already ordered the IS front lips and side skirts. So no biggie banging those up. Gonna drive the car abit more the next few days to access if anything else might be wrong. So far, it seems ok.

Some pics of the car going to the clinic to get an MC...

Going in... U can see the dirty tyres after the car danced ballet on the road...

Afterwhich, i went off for lunch... and came back, saw the car already lifted up with the new rims attached...

Took some shots of the undercarriage (since i've never seen it b4)

Point of impact hit this area first...

Everything looking OK from the outside, proceed to do the alignment to check the camber of the car

So far so good... nothing seems to be wrong hopefully... Gonna run it awhile and listen out for any funny sounds... hopefully there will not be any.... Big thanks to the nice ppl at J4C and the folks at the alignment shop as well.

Re: E30 had a slight accident but all's well now...

nice car!i prefer black colour..hahaha with 19''chrome rims??

Re: E30 had a slight accident but all's well now...

Man, that was a lucky escape for you! 17" is a huge jump from 14", any issues with them?

Re: E30 had a slight accident but all's well now...

woot i prefer ur car in black with 19''chromed rims!

Re: E30 had a slight accident but all's well now...

Mock,

The new 17" rims are nice lah. Now your ride won't look under-tyred. Cheers!

Re: E30 had a slight accident but all's well now...

that was close, feel ani diff wen driving wit the new rims??

Re: E30 had a slight accident but all's well now...

so in your opinion, did ADT help at all?

i dun think ADT will help when all your tyres lost grip with the road. whatever you do it is useless until you got the grip back.

mock, happy to hear that you and the car are fine. i had that experience before too and even the car is equipped with ASC or DSC, it is useless once all the tyres have no grip with the road.

"power is nothing without control"

Re: E30 had a slight accident but all's well now...

did ADT help? hmm... hard to say in such a situation. i guess it wld have helped if i was driving a car with DSC/ABS, but i had none. So maybe that part was a bit off... Previously i've encountered the car oversteering a few times, so i wld say those previous bits of experience helps more then the ADT training.

I guess in such a situation, my mistake was taking my foot off the throttle immediately, which suddenly shifted the balance from the back to the front, and on counter steering, the grip suddenly regained by the front, swung the car out the other angle and pretty much, wiped me out... I shud have modulated the throttle more, but i guess when ur just driving normally, u won't be thinking of such things at all.

hmm..yea the jump from 14" to 17" was pretty big, difference i guess wld be maybe a slightly slightly heavier feel? more bumpy ride, but better stability.

Just a question, is my speedo now not displaying the correct speed i am travelling at? Cos i go at ard 100km/h and it does seem like i am going faster then before...

17" are the biggest this car can take... haha... i can;t even turn the steering full lock without the tyres rubbing the inner wall... but , having searched all over SG for E30 rims, they are almost impossible to find... unless i put spacers which i do not want to...

Just happy there was no structural or bodywork damage to the car, it stood up to the impact really well. :)

Dun really want to paint it black la... it'll make the car look too dinky and small.
Hoping to do it up in ALpine White and paint the rims black wif chrome lip. Then i can park next to Adrian's white E90..haha

Ahhh...hahaha... yea, shud be me, sorry i didn;t notice u, i was late for supper wif saifywaify...
wait he angry la... I remember it was an E36 right? sorry was in a rush

Wat's wrong wif ur ride? Hope its not too bad, i guess for old cars like us, they dun seem to like going out in the rain, all our tails like to flip flop ard

Re: E30 had a slight accident but all's well now...

Mock, I must add... accidentally, your ride transformed into something even more outstanding now.. I love those deep dish thingy you had there... Sweee...

Re: E30 had a slight accident but all's well now...

Louis, hope everythings ok now....you did look a little shaken that night, but guess who wouldn't after all that....

Anyways, glad the rims came in handy for you. At least now they have a new owner .....:) I did not experience any rubbing at full lock though, or for that matter any at all.

For me personally, anything is better than stock 14"... :) So I ditched them as soon as I could get rid of them. 17" will be a slightly more harsh ride and slightly heavier but you will find that with your new lowered setup your car will stay planted on the ground.

Must say the rims will look really pimp with resprayed black centres and chrome lips, on an alpinewhite body....so hope to see that coming....haha

cheers and safe driving to all....

so only good looking rims can park beside you!?
some tips: u can only find adrian in some dark corners ard sentosa!

Re: E30 had a slight accident but all's well now...

how many times Adrian park in dark corners? hahahah... must be many times...
you guys will NOT belive what happened today, as some of u know, i wanted to go down to siglap to join u guys for some drinks... drove down....

Bloody HELL!!!!! My car locked me inside.... WTF....
struggled with the lock, unwinded the windows and whilst pulling the lock upwards, pulled the handle outside to get it opened.... But the lock was still in the down position. So i tried putting my key to unlock... Can't turn... tried the passenger side, can't turn... WTH... Tried putting the key in multiple times to try and try again, but no use...

Opened the passenger door the same way, with the windows down, pulled the lock upwards and pulled the door handle from the outside. Door opened, but lock is still in the locked position. SHIT!!! Sunday... no workshops opened...

(That's when i sms-ed Kenny that something came up)
So i got in, closed the doors (with me locked inside again), drove to Paya Lebar, AutoAccs, they couldn't fix it, no parts to use.

Went down to Sin Ming to see if any shops were opened, saw 1 opened buy again, no parts to help me out. (And until now, the door was still stuck ok! lock could NOT be opened, unless u forced it from the outside)

So, last resort, drove down to Autobacs... So HAPPY! Mechanic says it can be done... so i parked the car and waited when it was my turn, i went to show the problem... Mechanic puts the key into the slot, "pop", all the locks unlock themselves.... Mechanic locks n unlocks the car a few times... no problems whatsoever... WTH MAN!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!

Ahh... the joys of classic car motoring... i swear my car's jealous of me not paying enuff attention to her...

Re: E30 had a slight accident but all's well now...

Mock.... your ride has the same temperament as my WIFE...... got attitude problem...Hahahaha

Re: E30 had a slight accident but all's well now...
