E34 for less than $4K per year

Hi all,

am helping an expat friend sell off her E34 520i. Since I'm the one who psycho'ed her to get it, apparently I am responsible for helping her to sell. :yummie:

It's a gorgeous car that's partially restored, with a careful and expensive respray that took two months (engine out, scraping down to bare metal, new rubber seals, etc). It also has an M20B20 that pulls pretty hard, almost like an M20B25, if you catch my drift.

The interior has yet to be restored, but it's pretty original. With a freshly renewed COE, she's asking for $34,888 for a car with 10 years left, meaning a manageable loan should be arrangeable. That's less than $4K per year for a car that's in better shape than most E34s.

Pls PM me if you're interested, or check out our ad here:

Some pics:

This car easily has the best E34 body in town; the
chassis was measured for straightness by STA.

SCH8830R_1.jpg

The rims have also been refurbished, but if you ask
me they look gross since they're from an E39

SCH8830R_2.jpg

What is there to say? It runs well, really.

SCH8830R_3.jpg

There's no longer a 520i badge on the rear. Make of that
what you will.

The interior is not a match for the body, but should
easily be done up.

Cheers,
LJL

Re: E34 for less than $4K per year

no doubt a nice car and probably runs well too, but i dont think there's really any value left for the E34.....except scrap+goodwill ($3k)

hope you find someone who appreciates the car .......

Kinda disagree... when I was a young(er) man, these things were the stylish exec express to have. They still have a lot of gangster chic. The price is right and who can argue with 10 more years...

Re: E34 for less than $4K per year

dont be mistaken, I fully agree with your thoughts in that sense.
I too like old , nostalgic vehicles, properties, watches, etc.....

Just that it's difficult to let it go at that price unless to someone who appreciates as mentioned.

Re: E34 for less than $4K per year

Most of the UK BMW magazines seem to say that the E34 is actually a stronger car than the E39. Over the years, I have had a 91 E34 520i, a 96 E39 520i and now have an 02 E39 525iT. I must say that all were/ are very reliable.

The E34 is also a good basis for ICE, if you are so inclined. In fact, a couple of my ICE installers have told me that the E34 has better acoustics and speaker mounting points than the E39.

Jumping between an E34 and E39, the ride and handling characteristics are similar, with the E39 feeling slightly less "wooden" in terms of steering feel and with a more compliant ride.

I still really like the shape of the E34, and the exposed quad headlights.

Thanks for taking time to discuss the other day, JL. Good luck with the sale!

ADD repair costs should be around $6k plus pa?

good luck!

This car has had regular servicing, new tyres, a timing belt renewal (just in case) and.. .that's it. It needs new rear springs, which cost $75 at Eng Soon. $6K a year? Maybe if you get a crappy one, but for a clean car, I dun think so...

Foxfrc5 is right; my dad had an E34 and then an E39, and the E34 was much more reliable.

Re: E34 for less than $4K per year

I dont think I've ever spent more than S$1k per year on any of these cars, except for when I had to rebuild the transmission on the E34. Even then, it was probably around S$2k.

Re: E34 for less than $4K per year

Well, one man's meat could be anoter's posion?
Others even called the BMW = Bring More Worries??
For as long as you love your car and think it's worth the money/effort, then it's the right chioce for you...???

The 1995 version of the E34 M60 530i is with the V8 engine, that is the main reason why I bought my car. Normally you only get a V8 engine with much bigger cc car, not with a 3000 cc...

See here for all E34 specs BMW E34 Website

Re: E34 for less than $4K per year

Wow.... this is very interesting. Would love to see a 3.0 V8 one of these days man. Excellent buy.

Re: E34 for less than $4K per year

Yes it's a very smooth and nice car to drive, but to maintain her in tip top condition is not cheap (at all), also the very high fuel comsumption...
Some may say it's not worth the money and effort spent on such an old car, but to me, she's a very rare gem and definately a collector's item??

Re: E34 for less than $4K per year

Saw JL's car, very nice paint work. Full Glasurit paint job and in a unique BMW colour too: Lach Metelic Silber. Looks absulutely prestine. Free Bump for you.

Re: E34 for less than $4K per year

The E38 7 series used V8 3 and 4 litre engines. I think the engine code was M60. Apparently they are pretty tough powerplants.

Hey Zaskar, thanks for that. Er, I actually didn't know all that, but it's nice to know!

Re: E34 for less than $4K per year

Also changed on the car were all the door rubbers as well as the rear and front windscreen rubbers. New MF battery as well.

Re: E34 for less than $4K per year

Lachs Silver is a nice colour that really suits the E30 and E34 shapes. I was thinking of buying a 1991 E30 at the end of last year as a project car, and would have painted it that colour for sure.
