E34 - M50?

I have a '91 E34 and it has 6 cylinders - can I assume it's the 24v M50 engine?

Easy to tell: M50 24v engine has big palstic cover over the engine, looks a bit like F1. reason was that this engine was so much noiser than the M20 12v the cover is there for sound deadening purposes.

As Opavulet said, M50 will have the big engine cover over whereas if you have an exposed Intake manifold (This metal thing that looks like a crab) - Its most probably a 12V M20 engine.

Anyways, glad you could join the roll of E34ers in the forum! We're just a small bunch of about 2 or 3 people left!
