E60 acceleration problem from traffic light

Hi all,

I searched the forum on acceleration problem but did not find any relevant topics. My 6.5 yr old E60 has started to experience jerky drives from traffic lights.

Symptoms are slow acceleration no matter how hard i stepped but ok later, and occassionally, 2 secs of knocking sound from the wheel, its like the car has problem gripping onto the road but my hankook tyres are only 20K new...hard to describe...hope you know what i mean.

Help!!!

Re: E60 acceleration problem from traffic light

Could be a range of possibilities but the usual culprits are fuel pump and crankshaft

Knocking sound is not tyres, could be anything as well..like control arm bushings worn off or suspension faulty

Re: E60 acceleration problem from traffic light

you can try checking on a few areas:-

1) Fuel Pump --- too old?
2) Fuel Filter --- Dirty ?
3) Catalytic Converter ---Clogged?
4) injector --Clogged?
5) Mis-tuned --- IF you did tune your car before, check the above before re-tune.

As for the Knocking sound ..."2 sec...gong gong sound" as per MW has mentioned the possibilities ( suspension system, bushes, collapsible steering column...).

hope these helps :)

Re: E60 acceleration problem from traffic light

Thanks! I will be sending the car to PML next week....hope small issue...

Re: E60 acceleration problem from traffic light

Since car out of warranty already, no need to send to PML. You can try some of the sponsor workshops here, which provide excellent advices at reasonable prices. I would recommend R2D at Unity Centre, Bukit Batok.

Re: E60 acceleration problem from traffic light

Slow means there is lag when you press on the accelerator? Then, at some point the power comes on? Or slow means something is slipping or holding you back then suddenly all seems to move?

I experience something less dramatic then this before but after the drive up to Penang and back, i can feel the car is so much more willing to rev and move.

Maybe time to take a holiday in Malacca or something and let your car breath a bit.

Cheers

i have the same problem for my E90...i fast hand fast leg sell it away after visiting few workshop and still can't gt it fix.

Re: E60 acceleration problem from traffic light

If its fuel pump and filter - goto the workshop with quarter tank or less and some petrol.

Re: E60 acceleration problem from traffic light

Hello all...

I took the car to PML for a test drive by one of their technician. His verdict is gearbox malfunction thus acceleration is slow but normal after 60km/h.

Arranged a diagnostic test to find out the prob. Most likely gearbox kaput and now have to decide whether to repair (at lowest cost possible) or change car.

Current ride is 6.5 yrs old with 115K km.

Re: E60 acceleration problem from traffic light

Got car checked at PML. Was told transmission unit issue and quoted 11k for a brand new set. Somehow, the service adviser could not articulate the issue well. Was told gear box ok, but clutch worn out and cannot be changed. Is this true? Topped up transmission fluid, reset the software and now the car does not feel so right.

Help!!

Bring it to one of the gearbox specialist workshop - do a search. Should be cheaper.

Re: E60 acceleration problem from traffic light

Hi All,

Sorry if this is a repeat question, but would appreciate anyone who can help to answer this question I have i.e. my E60 (4 cylinder) had an engine oil leak due to too much oil being added in the last change. As far as I know, the recommended amount for this model is 4.25L however is this the correct amount? I can't seem to find any further info by reading the manual or via the forums. Any help would be appreciated, thank you in advance.

Re: E60 acceleration problem from traffic light

Big thanks to all bros here. Brought the car to R2D Autoworks and had it restored to good health (gearbox rebuilt) by the team.

Good experience at R2D. I would recommend it to bros here who have the gear jerk issue.

Will be going back for a new set of suspension and regular servicing.
