e60 - software upgrade

Appreciate if the bros here can share how to tell if my pre-owned 523i has been upgraded with the newest software.

My next servicing shown on screen is another 10,000 more and hope to find out more about issues relating to software upgrade ....

Just piggyback on this old thread as I can't post new thread yet.

I toyed around with my recently bought 520i (200 8 ) E60 and found this software version on OBD (menu 01.06)
The display shows:

01.06
SW
89.51.00

My guess is the car software version is 89.51.00

May I know if
1) This is the CIP version number?
2) Is it the most recent updated version?

Anyone out there has / had their car software updated recently? The update must be done through the MOST bus?

(I have tried googling for the latest software versions but couldnt find anything).

That is not your car's software version. And the most bus is not used for updating software.

As at 2005/6 the "CIP" version is 21.1.1 or something.

may I know what is the "SW" number in OBD menu 01-06? And how do I check my current car CIP version? As my iDrive doesn't have the latest interface that has an item of "VersionKontrolle". (* note: have tried to "press idrive button, left 3 times, right 3 times etc" and doesn't work on my idrive)
Also may I know if not using MOST bus, is it using CAN bus? Most importantly, have you encountered any hardware incompatibility problems (ECU, TCU) after firmware upgrades?

Yes, I have the same question as you, so far researching thru some of the bimmer forums, inluding the german ones.
Furthermore would like to know:

1) any incidences of problem ie software/hardware mismatch AFTER doing software upgrade

2) How to read/ access the software version currently on the car.

3) any link to latest BMW bulletin stating latest firmware version?

upgrading CIC, if i'm not mistaken, involve hardware upgrade as well, for eg installing rear camera for reverse cam view etc. may not be cheap! I PMed the TS of an older thread re: this but i guess he is not visiting the forum regularly anymore.

Are we talking about the car software (i-level) or only to update the cic ?
