Old car liao, one problem after another.

Roof can't open today! :(

Any reliable workshops to recommend, or just go back to PML?

Thanks!

Re: E85 roof failed!

Wahh kenasai.. Sorrry to hear that.
Had the same problem on the E85. Such a pain.

You could scavenge em hydraulic motors from a scrapyard to save cost...
which i don't recommend cos it's probably as old..

Can try 2277 man, saw them fix a few Z4's and 6-er's roof.

Spotted you few months back at Buona Vista, but wasn't sure you'd recognise me! :)

Thanks for the 2277 recommendation.

Yeah I think I remember that. You had yours fixed at Boss a year or so ago, right? How much did it cost?

go juzzforcars...jerms had his fixed there too

Cool, will check j4c out too. Thanks, bro.

Re: E85 roof failed!

roof gone ah...

hai... that happened to me last year.... common problem on the E85.. if you park outdoors then the problem will come even faster..

i did got mine changed at J4C last year.. good job done.. the most surprising part was i got all my parts changed and my car running in 1.5 days.

Re: E85 roof failed!

Prepare 4k. If you are going to change and have at least 3 more years to drive, I advise change the motor and the 2 side lifting hydraulics.

Re: E85 roof failed!

$4K!?

Planning to drive only maybe another year - so just change motor would do?

Re: E85 roof failed!

Are you sure no sound from the unlock motor near the cabin lamp ?

Unlock it manually and see if the hydraulics kick in after that.

Don't think the 2 motors would cost 4k. Should be a lot less than that.

Nope. Nothing happens except the error light at the roof control module lighting up.

Re: E85 roof failed!

Yeah, totally no sound. How to do manual unlock? Heh.

Re: E85 roof failed!

The cover behind the lamp can be pulled opened. Use a allen key to unscrew the latch.

Along the way check the cables under the roof's cloth.

Re: E85 roof failed!

I'd have the guys at J4C or Munich take a look at it. I've never ventured beyond these two workshops and they are top notch. ... Have it repaired well and thorough. You wouldn't want to be caught with the top down on a rainy day.

Re: E85 roof failed!

Think of getting a z4 e85 in a month's time. I apologize for hijacking this post as I am new and am unable to start a new thread. However the question is also roof related.

(1) I seen online the in the US, it is possible to convert e85 soft top to hard top. Is it possible to do it in SG? If so, what is the approximate price?

(2) Seems like there are quite a fair bit with the roof especially with age to come for the series. Is it possible to overwrite the motor/hydraulics and manually operate the roof?

Re: E85 roof failed!

On your second point ... The answer is yes. You would need strong arms though ...... And an Allen key.
