E90 320i: Cannot start car

Has anyone experience this before. I couldn't depress the brake pedal to start the engine. The OBC shows an ! sign. I took out the key, re-inserted it and try again, The brake pedal is still very hard but I could get it to yield a little for the ignition to start. Once the engine started, the pedal became soft again. I perform a system check again and this time ok. Wierd.

Hi Shaun,

The difficulty to depress the brake is due to a faulty brake check valve issue. It has been mentioned in this forum before. You can get it replaced FOC if your car is still under warranty. After replacement, ur brakes will not have this difficult to depress problem anymore.

Bro...can you remember the sequence of how you parked your ride? ie..depress brake, shift to P, shut off engine whilst still depressing brake or foot off brake...or otherwise? Did it happen again recently?

Thanks. I found out from bimmerfest forum. I downloaded a pdf from BMWNA describing the issue and the part to replace. :) Seems like just a minor issue which will not affect the brakes, so I am cool. And I didn't know that if you press the start button more than once without depressing the brakes, it throws a warning sign. :yummie:

Shaun

Could you point me to the website on BMWNA where you got the pdf file ? I have the same "braking non-depressing" problem as you after leaving the car parked for over 4/5 hours.

Thanks!
