e90 323 whining sound between 70km/h to 85km/h?

Re: e90 323 whining sound between 70km/h to 85km/h?

Ferd, thanks for sharing..

I am starting to get used to the whining.... can't imagine sending my car in and get hit and scratched... but need to check, if the axle is not changed, is it doing harm to the car in any sense in the long run?

My brakes are sticky as well... always have to wait for 2 seconds before the car jerks forward..

Re: e90 323 whining sound between 70km/h to 85km/h?

Try adding more sound insulation below the rear seats. The diff is just below the rear seats.

Hi Ferd,

5. cd changer audio quality not consistent

For this point, do you experience loud then soft sound and loud again....

yeah! like stereo and then mono then stereo again! my problem doesn't appear to be completely resolved for the cd changer, but the gearbox software level upgrade seems to make it smoother and more responsive (less shift lag)

Re: e90 323 whining sound between 70km/h to 85km/h?

I also experience the cd changer problem.... Did they siad what they did for this problem?

Re: e90 323 whining sound between 70km/h to 85km/h?

said they will check, maybe upgrade some software level.... radio bass seems stronger for the same setting.... but CD changer issue still persist! :(

Re: e90 323 whining sound between 70km/h to 85km/h?

For PML, it is normal when car is still under warranty. It will suddenly becomes abnormal when they know it is out of warranty and the slightest problem requires major replacements. Had my fair share of such issues over the past 3 years.

Re: e90 323 whining sound between 70km/h to 85km/h?

what a load of BS. That stuff's not normal at all, HELLO, its a BMW, should be bloody perfect.

Everyone take their cars back, that whining sound is for sure the differential. You will also notice when you take foot of loud pedal it seems to jerk right? Diff gears are ok, the bearings have slack in them and need to be shimmed.

I feel like opening an opposition to PML and tell you all the truth about your cars.

Re: e90 323 whining sound between 70km/h to 85km/h?

phil..please do tell. it will greatly benefit everyone including PML themselves...

Re: e90 323 whining sound between 70km/h to 85km/h?

Well, to me, what they are telling you is simply ripping you off as they know dam well not everyone is an expert, PLUS if you have the cash to buy a Bimmer, surely they want you to spend on repairs, thats where they make their money, on parts.
I do all the usual checks on mine, knocked it outta gear, yep still there, so not the tranny, has to be diff, plus it happens under load. Thats juts either massive wear or something is wrong with that particular model. I reckon it's the latter. All of the late model cars between say 2001 and whenever the current shape one came out must have an inherint peoblem. Did anyone hear of BMW recalling any of them? Lastly, check your service books, does it say that PML checks diff oil levels and/or replaces the oil? If this happened in Australia, there would be alot of BMW dealers with some cars driven through their showroom window by irate customers, mhahaha. I have noticed alot of guys complaining of various faults, my car has most of them to, the diff whining, the flat spot after idle etc etc. I think this isnpoor for such a class of car. Yeah i am whingeing, i know, but we all paid alot of money for these cars, we SHOULD be getting better care from the dealer. Thats just my 20 cents worth.
Oh, in case you are all wondering who is this crazy dude. If you noticed my profile pic, thats the sort of boats i have been playing with for more than 20 years. 1500 hp+ 200mph plus over the quarter mile. Plus I am an automotive engineer by trade and have worked on many race teams in Australia. From drag cars to circuit cars to race boats. Maggot car dealers, who do they think they are trying to rip off us regular guys who have a love for their cars.
wow, am actually mad now, LOL.
I agree with what kmng2308 said. Is normal cause they tell you its normal, dun stand for it anymore guys!! A mate of mine in Singapore got a merc, he had an engine and 2 gearboxes in th first six months of owning it, he swore he will buy a BMW next, so thatss why i got one, arghhhhhhhhh
If you see an angry lookin ang mo with tattoos all over him this Sunday at the get together thing, dun worry, i'm a nice guy really, hehehehe.
tired now, need sleep

Re: e90 323 whining sound between 70km/h to 85km/h?

Thanks Phil. Excellent insights.

I think we need more expert opinion like Phil's on such issues.

Ferd, Congrats on the replacement and glad the whining sound has been eradicated. Time for me to send my ride in too.

Re: e90 323 whining sound between 70km/h to 85km/h?

No worries. Actually after all the above, i went to PML on Saturday to "discuss" their attitudes and opinions they have. Unbeknowns to me, they bloody shut early on Saturdays!! haha. So here i was, all ready to pick a fight with some workshop manager, only to be let down cause no one there!! yes, I admit, I am an idiot. However, got to check out some nice rides and pretty gals whilst i was there, walked away mildly happy!!

Re: e90 323 whining sound between 70km/h to 85km/h?

You are not alone, Phil. PML guys are the most elusive bunch (I call them "submariners"), including the CS manager, Christopher. My last episode with them (2 weeks ago) was when they asked me to change my aux fan, I called at least 10 times, and left no less than 4 messages, no one called back. I even left voice mails with the CS manager. Imagine, PML technician do not even know their cars!! After a 2 days service, I discovered that my aux fan was running at max speed even during a morning cold start. I sent it back twice and they kept insisting that it was a fan problem. I sent it to BVO and in 1 hour, BVO diagnosed the problem to be a faulty coolant temp. sensor. I sent it back to PML and they changed the sensor and problem solved. Imagine if I had taken their advice to replace the $500 aux fan!! I will need a new fan in 3 months because it will be running at max speed all the time!!
Then, I asked to see the CS manager, but he was no where to be found and mind you that was on a week day, during working hours, not Saturday!! Then I left messages but he does not even bother to call back - that's great PML CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

Re: e90 323 whining sound between 70km/h to 85km/h?

I see. Well thats not good at all. You expect the best possible service, especially from a BMW dealer.
I think we need to get a group of disgruntled BMW owners together and lobby some government department to look into this. It HAS to be against some sort of fair trading law in Singapore??
You had a good experience at BVO, and I have had a "reasonable" experience at Juzz for cars, (only after i refused to let the guy tell me how long my car would be in his shop for) I think we can one boost the aftermarket guys rep a little and 2 deal PML a big blow. Trust me, I can have a very big mouth if needed and if something pisses me off, I will never give up until i win the battle.
So enlighten me you guys, in yuor opinions, is PML doing what should be required of a business in Singapore?
BTW, i was almost intending upgrading my car when i went there on Saturday, but as NO sales attendant even bothered to look at me, forget it, no business for them from me

Re: e90 323 whining sound between 70km/h to 85km/h?

Hi all bimmers,

With all these real cases of PML's not-up-to-standard service level, do you think we can launch an official complaint to BMW head quarter ? (or send an email to the CEO)

Re: e90 323 whining sound between 70km/h to 85km/h?

yes, give me his email address, I will email him now!
We certaintly need to have some sort of document with a list of complaints and everyones signature on it

i sent it in at 8.20am, it was ready around 4pm? i think it also pretty much depends on the workshop load that day... and plus I tell them each time, "don't wash my car!"

PML takes so much pain to hide their email addresses from the public. Even the fax number. Best way is to send a fax to Simon Rock, then call his secretary first thing in the morning to confirm receipt. Then it will trickle down the tree and someone will be calling you pretty soon. Worked for me. :)
