hey my 335 brothers, got a few questions, your opinions/advice please.

1) manual or auto? i'm a manual person, but the auto's faster? any effect on resale value? does PML even bring in manual?

2) when i order the m3 i could specify my exterior/interior colour and trim, can i do the same for the 335? what's the lead time like?

3) if i get auto.. should i get the sports steering w/ paddleshift or do an aftermarket m3 steering wheel retrofit?

4) anyone got the latest price from PML, pls post here or PM if not convenient

thanks for the help!!!

btw no need advice on mods, will keep it stock.............. :screwedu: :lol2:

Alex,

Yes the auto is faster, but manual more kick. 2 manuals in this forum, StevenWu and Physicist. Perhaps they should give you a feel of resale - nothing yet in the secondary market......

2) when i order the m3 i could specify my exterior/interior colour and trim, can i do the same for the 335? what's the lead time like?
Both PML and PI, yes. Not too sure about the lead time, in view of the DCT model.

3) if i get auto.. should i get the sports steering w/ paddleshift or do an aftermarket m3 steering wheel retrofit?
Two nice aftermarket steering - M3 and Performance. I suspect you will change.

4) anyone got the latest price from PML, pls post here or PM if not convenient
Should be $245K to $248K depending on options like Logic 7.

At this stage, I would recommend you to wait for the DCT. It has an official rating of 600nm tolerance. More bulletproof gearbox if you plan to mod. Plus it comes with the new iDrive. The rest of your questions, I leave the mod kings to chime in. If you plan to keep your car stock, something is extremely very wrong.

Cheers!

Re: e92 335 owners.. chime in pls..

Still unsure whether the DCT's new Progman can chip or not........

Re: e92 335 owners.. chime in pls..

Hi,

I chosen Manual because I like the involvement as well as full control of gears selection. BMW clutch is always 'hard' but has feel. Unfortunately, with the CDV, smooth but slow...this can be changed with modified CDV.

If you'vre NOT planning to increase the torque in future, then AUTO is a thing to go. Heard that torque converter can take MAX 630Nm. Present JB3 can easily reach 590Nm. Clutch wise, NO limit...limitation becomes at tranny and rear diff.

FC is always better, running-in now with 70% HW, 30% city, managed to get about 8.5km/litres with occasionally PULLed to 5500rpm.

In gear acceralation is IMMEDIATE, once the specific gear is engaged. Could feel torque as low as 2000rpm onwards.

Traffic jam wise.....then I prefers Auto...

I still love my manual.

Hope this help.

Re: e92 335 owners.. chime in pls..

Steven, your FC is fantastic !!!

Re: e92 335 owners.. chime in pls..

ah... i should have done some research..

this DCT is a new auto gearbox? something like DSG?

when can i place my order to expect the car to come with the DCT gearbox?

think i won't get manual................. left leg abit tired already.

FC quite worrysome tho, esp with the increasing gas prices!!

$ NO ENOUGH

DCT to be present in cars made from Sep 08 onwards.. which is now lol...

2009 BMW 3-series to get DCT gearbox - Autoblog

on a more serious note tho...

is the 335 w/ suspension, anti-roll, intake, exhaust, brakes, oil cooler, a worthy sepang track car?
Thought u just said you are not modding the car?

Get the DCT, it is the fastest of the 3 option. 0.2s faster than manual and 0.3s faster than the Auto.

I think FC is the last of your considerations!

Re: e92 335 owners.. chime in pls..

Hi Ken,
Maybe mine is stock (not jb yet) so FC is ok.....53 litres can achieved about 470km

As for the torque number...typo...JB3 can reached about 485Nm, not 585Nm, right ?

Pal,
Go for DCT....manual gears with auto convenient.

Yo sir, buying new car?

Re: e92 335 owners.. chime in pls..

Alex,

Get the DCT. Manual is an ass to drive in heavy traffic. I hate the CDV too.

Actually without DP & FMIC, JB2 Single H was already hitting above 580 nm.........

Re: e92 335 owners.. chime in pls..

Auto vs Manual? The Steptronic gearbox isnt it botha auto and manual?:screwedu: Anyway The 335 gearshift is fantastically quick. The new DCT shld be even better.

Anyway I am a slow driver and doesnt mod my car, so nothing else to contribute since my car is stock:)

Very much a worthy track car. Dont think you will keep it stock.
And since when u buy car need to ask so much qns? :)

Re: e92 335 owners.. chime in pls..

Hi Ken,
I thought the number of 585Nm is too much....just 'boost', increased of 180Nm....knn....but only the stock torque of GTR of 580Nm.

Just wondering anyone with JB3, what is the torque number and will the max torque comes in sooner ?

Steven,

The JBX on Terry's car is 402 bhp / 610 nm with UR DPs and BMS filter. That's dyno done in the US.

Another local forumer's dyno with FMIC and DPs showed 410 bhp / 620 nm during the same session as mine. We checked with Desmond Soh on his calibration, and he confirmed his readings against the dyno read on GTRs. So while it was not a "happy" dyno, it is still quite a breathtaking results from stock figures.

BTW, take a look at Omar's stock dyno - 434 nm, not 400 nm - on Rommell's.

JB3 does not have the same torque surge as the V2.02 or the JB2/X. It appears to shift the peak figures further down the RPM range. Very linear. That explain why most JB3 owner are feeling like driving a "4-0 litre car" rather than driving a 600 nm car. And the improvements are not phenomenal over JB2. But the idea of variable torque curves....... steam.
