Re: Engine dies off after starting

hi 22, it could be your fuel regulator that's faulty.
i had this happen to me once.
my car died on me halfway up the expressway.
had to get the vehicle towed back to PML.
got the fuel regulator replaced under warranty.

it could be something else though,
but best for you to bring it down to PML for them to run a check on your car just in case.

I also had the same problem - got the fuel regulator changed and also some vacuum tube.

Are you using after market air filter - clogged airflow sensor also can have the same symptoms.

sounds like fuel filter which has the fuel regulator incorporated. Mine had 4 filters changed within a 50K mileage all under warranty, and the problem is never fully resolved. Happens whenever the fuel is low.

fuel pressure regulator was the culprit for me...

Thanks for all your input, my car is out of warranty period and any recommendation on a workshop that can handle this and any idea what will be the cost like.

Really appreciate your comments.

Cheers

22,

check out the workshop links page. Many of us go to Juzz (Amos) or BVO (Bernard). Ask them for a quote first. Don't jump to the conclusion that it's the fuel pressure regulator :) ask them to check first.

Thanks for advise on workshops and will ask them to check on the 3 items listed by racebred.

Cheers and have a good weekend!

What's your fuel level when this occured. This just happened to me. I started in the morning and the rpm just went berserk - like uneven firing. Drove out and the car stalled after 10 mins.

PML emergency service cautioned against not refuelling when needle dips below 1/4 tank although fuel light is not lit. It seems that the design of the fuel piping allows air to sip in and thus affect the engine.

Followed his instructions and it never occured since.

I am actually on half tank when it happen, so the problem might be different. I normally refuel when the light come on and never have any problem.

Gonna send in for checking tommorrow but surprisingly the car starts very well today, looks like will have to monitor the situation for a few more days.

Cheers

Big problem, intermittent fault like mine. Even though my car is under warranty, I have given up bring back to PML. Gone back too many times, and they everytime just replaced the fuel filter which will solve the problem for a little while.

Looks like my problem is the idle control valve, any bros here know how much it will cost to have it replaced.

Thanks

Hi,

I had mine replaced for 280.

Regards,

Hi Bros, workshop suspect that it might be the fuel pump that is causing this problem, any bros here can advise the cost of replacing the fuel pump so that I know i am paying a reasonable price for this work.

Regards

Outcome : Got the idle control valve replace at about $300 and the car starts beautifully and hope it will keep it this way. BTW thanks for all your valuable inputs.

Cheers
