My 2006 E90 320i OBC display the engine top up indicator.
actually my last service at J4C, mechanic already told me that engine oil leak, but not very serious.
They quoted me 3K to change the gaskets and my gearbox oil (seems like leaking as well).
Any brother know cheaper alternative to get it fixed? maybe in JB?

Please don't ask me to change car. I decided to drive till scrap.

Re: Engine oil leak

U can try other site sponsors like BVO, Boss Motorsports, etc.

If you are changing ur gearbox oil, might as well also change the flywheel oil seal while you are at it as it will leak sooner or later. Also change the ATF oil pan and oil filter.

These 4 items, ATF, Oil Pan, Oil Filter and Flywheel oil seal inclusive of parts and labour is approx. 1k as per quoted to me by BVO earlier.

Then there are the other oil seals like:-

1) Oil Filter Housing Oil Seal
2) 2 x Vanos Sensor Oil Seal
3) Valve Cover Oil Seal (Inside also got Vanos Motor Oil Seal)
4) Oil Sump Gasket
5) Engine Oil Pump (Near engine firewall area and check for leaks)
6) Oil Seperator or PCV Valve (Under Intake Manifold Area)
7) Crankshaft Oil Seal

Since your car is 2006 till now, you might also consider to change all Radiator Hoses and attachments, flush the radiator and top up with BMW Original Coolant. Change thermostat and waterpump.

Do brake fluid replacement and bleed.
Check ur ignition coils and spark plugs, replace if necessary.
Flush and replace your rear differential oil.
Change Power Steering Fluid.

Check Wheel bearings for "wong wong" sound, if there is, wheel bearings replacement is necessary.
Check under carriage for any anomalies with dust boots on the drive shafts, etc. Replace if broken, etc.

Then you should be good to go for another 2 to 3 years of relatively problem free motoring.

Re: Engine oil leak

No worries, I was just sharing. I think there are some JB workshops that some fellow forummers do visit. Maybe you could PM lkm as per the below link. He did mention he went JB to repair his car. Can PM him for info.

no lead yet bro, will keep you informed.
anyway my radiiator and hoses also change in J4C. i think around 1k plus.

Re: Engine oil leak

not very serious and still need 3k?
i think u probably need to ask around...changing gaskets n gearbox oil shouldn't cost 3k.....insane man

Re: Engine oil leak

I just did something similar. Changed some hoses, gaskets, oil sump etc. Just under 1k. PM me if u want the workshop contact. Mine was leaking until I saw smoke. It's coz the oil lands on the exhaust. Haha

Re: Engine oil leak

Btw if it's not serious leakage, I wouldn't bother. The wear and tear is just part an parcel of an aging car.

and also wanted to do up my gearbox problem, was quoted a service of valve body, and change of solenoid in the VB. quoted 1.8k 2 days lead time. also at Sin Ming, one of the tranny workshop. when i described my tranny problems to the mechanic, he seems to know his stuff.

Thats some interesting figures that you were quoted. Can you please PM me the workshop that gave you the quote ?
Currently i am having some gear prob with my E90 where the reverse gear has delay in engaging so still scouting out for the best price with the best job done. So far one of the workshop in JB quoted me ~ RM 8k for the parts replacement job and couple of days ago I went to another workshop recommended by the m'sian forummers was quoted something like 7k or less for the job. So yea , see what happens next.

Re: Engine oil leak

My engine compartment is stained with oil, especially the tray at the bottom. Think gasket gone liao and I was quoted $1300 to get it done. Any advise?

Re: Engine oil leak

Hi Guys sorry to hijack this thread for a while ok?

Anyone knows any workshop who does good jobs and are experienced in engine compartmetn cleaning? Heart pain to see all the stubborn oil stains and dusk that's really hard to reach and clean.

I know that most grooming houses and workshops does simple engine compartment cleaning for you when you send your ride in for general servicing. But am looking for someone specialized in this area. Anyone you know?

Thanks you all.

Re: Engine oil leak

Hi

Did all my change of hoses, gaskets, etc etc. and cleaned out my engine compartment....reset my gears and got rid of the infernal stop and lurch problem.....all done at BVO. All problems resolved....engine smooth as silk again....no more leaks....and clean and pristine engine bay.

Hope this helps....

Oly

Re: Engine oil leak

Hello All,

newbie here, is it true that most will have oil leaks after 5yrs?

I am considering to buy 6-7yrs old 320i,

what else should I take note off?

Re: Engine oil leak

Yeap...they all do because the engines are really quite hot.

pretty normal so dont be surprised.

Just go down to any of the workshops and get it all fixed up.

Factor the cost of fixing up (between 2-3k( into the buying price.

Cheers

Re: Engine oil leak

thanks bro,...noted

I factor in 2-3k in & it fras those sellers..

lol

Re: Engine oil leak

I had a leakage problem with my e90 320i... Same thing, SG workshops quoted me sky high prices... I don't blame them - everything in Singapore's getting expensive!!

Eventually, I did everything in JB and is came up to less than SGD1k!! I could be wrong, but I recall working out everything to be below SGD900...

Here's what I had to replace:
- 2 x valvetronic o-rings
- 2 x oil filter housing o-rings
- ATF OIl pan (comes with pan + gasket)
- 7 liters of ZF 6-speed ATF fluid
- Engine valve cover gasket
- "dip-stick" o-ring
- Engine oil pan gasket
- Oil filter
- 4.5 liters Mobil 1 0W40

While the savings is substantial - do consider the extra time and effort in having to buy your own parts and head up north.... But to me? It's all worthwhile...

Oh yes - irrespective of SG or MY, please please please do make sure that the workshop you choose to perform your replacements is competent and familiar with your beemer. It's not only the mechanical familiarity but also the electronics familiarity.....

My next trip up would be to replace brakes - rotors, pads and sensors.... haiz.... so much maintenance....
