Engine Oil Questions

Hi Guys,

had my car for 2 months now and travelled a good 8km with it.
now the top up engine oil notice has lighted up and im not sure how to go about topping up.
car is still under pml warranty, should i bring there and let them do it?
if not, how do i check what grade of engine oil the car is currently using?
if dont have to go back to pml and can just top up myself, how to check the grade of engine oil and which type or grade of oil to buy?
sorry as its my first time and i hope to learn once and for all.

Since already 8000km, might as well do an oil change instead of top up.

But from what I read in this forum, pml doesn't encourage oil change? Or is that ATF which is totally a different thing?

But my job also require me to travel around singapore a lot.

years back, a ltr of engine oil (for such top-ups) and wheel-lock nuts come standard with the purchase. today, everything also have to pay...

When i got my 2005 E46 Sports Edition, it comes with a nice black nylon bag with a velcro to stick on the wall in the boot. When I sold the car, I kept the bag. Now is in my E60.

When i got my 2005 E46 Sports Edition, it comes with a nice black nylon bag with a velcro to stick on the wall in the boot. When I sold the car, I kept the bag. Now is in my E60.

Yup I transferred the Nylon Bag to my E60 too...same bro!

Found some solutions on the net. Got some help from friend as well. Will consider option A and B. thanks.

If for some reasons, u cannot get d oil change done anytime soon, get a 1L bottle of synthetic base engine oil, open up d engine oil cap & pour it all in.
Secure d cap bk on & u r gd to go...
(dun nid to b a rocket sciencetist to do tat rite)

If u r due & gg for a servicing anytime soon, save d 1L of oil bah...

D Atf aso has to changed but at longer intervals.

For me , for all my car that i use to change the engine oil before the due date . That give a cleaner engine . I usually change at a interval of 8000 km , in return the car perform better .

Just had an oil change at 4k.
E crap that comes out is thick and black.
Cannot imagine using it till the recommended 12k first servicing.

Using thicker oil now. Noticed that car is quieter, especially during idle.

i dumped the ows NA racing oil i was using at 4k too.
car sluggish like shit.
no way am touching that oil anymore
