Hi All,

Due for servicing again... 2007 E90, milage 26K KM

Thinking to try Castrol Edge 0W-40.

Any recommendation ... BTW how many liter E90 N46 need ?

Re: Engine Oil to use for 2007 E90

You could try to get 5 bottles of of German Castrol 0w30 from Slow_Poke_Driver .....,

Re: Engine Oil to use for 2007 E90

Using Pennzoil Ultra 5w-40.
About 4 and a half quart (1 quart is 946ml).
Therefore 5 quart/liter bottles is sufficient. Pack of 6 so that you can keep one in case need to top up.

Re: Engine Oil to use for 2007 E90

I would recommend 5w40 Pennzoil too. BMWs in asia should use 40 or 50 SAE value in order not to harden your Valve Gasket and Seals easily. If they harden, you will need to replace them frequently.

Re: Engine Oil to use for 2007 E90

Previously i use elf excilium 5w50, Pennzoil platinum 5w40 and now Kennol 5w40.

Personally prefer Pennzoil coz i change oil every 5k mileage, price for elf and pennzoil is reasonable compare to Kennol which claim it was flying feel after use . But i fly hump because keep on compare difference of those 3 brand and forgot to see hump on the road.

One assumption gaskets and seals fails is overheating. Sometime this may be due to EO shearing and deteriorating. This applies to thicker oils as well though it maybe more resilient to thinning.

But there is a price to pay for using too thick of an EO as it makes the engine work harder.

A suitable OCI coupled with the right EO should provide some level of longetivity for the gaskets.

Pre-detonation and misfiring can also contribute to gasket failures ......

Re: Engine Oil to use for 2007 E90

Hi ... I brought the Amsoil 5w-40 and Brisk Silver.

Will try this this time round !

Cheers !

Wow 2007 ride and only 26k mileage. Mine is 06 and now at 130k, prev owner svc at R2D who use Millers, note that this brand does not seem to figure in your discussions despite your obvious respect for Dr Rod's skills, any particular reason and any recommendations for my "old" engine? Tks.

40 is OK...............

Re: Engine Oil to use for 2007 E90

I even put 5W50 in my e60 last time.
I can feel engine noise much lower but. . . . . . someone told me fc suffer. For me no issue as my mileage less than 200km per month.

N52 is designed to run on 5-30.

I do feel 5w30 feel rough after agreesive driving.
As my car with 120k+ , i use 5w40 or 10w40.
Now still observation my engine oil consumption.

Re: Engine Oil to use for 2007 E90

Cst@100 is 13.7 - not too thick.

Cst@40 is 91 - way too thick.

This means when you first start the car it will not flow as fast to lubricate the engine from the sump. And IMHO - that is the phase that has the most friction between moving metal parts and would need the lubrication ASAP.

Doesn't indicate that its compliant with BMW LL specs as well ......

My 2 cents ........

Re: Engine Oil to use for 2007 E90

My 06 320i current mileage 173k. Top Overhaul done at 153k. Since top overhaul oil level always remain full till I did oil changed at 8k interval using Penzoil Utra 5W40 Euro.
Since there is no reduce in any oil level, thinking of using Penzoil Utra 5W30 Euro for my next oil change, is it OK?

Re: Engine Oil to use for 2007 E90

Hearsay put some seow inside will thicken and prevent oil consumption.

totoSEOW say one
