Engine Overheat Warning - Replaced water pump, thermostat, top hose

I don't think there's a difference in the cooling system for F10 lah. It's an on-demand cooling system now, after bmw incorporated the active air flaps at the nose grille area.
There is a 400w fan as well as 600w fan (for tropical country). That's according to RealOEM.

I read up quite abit on that and apparently 600w is an upgrade from the standard 400w. BMW did extensive tests in temps up to 45C in deserts with the standard 400w. Many forums (although they were European or US ones) say in hot summers they have been stuck in traffic or towed caravans or went up hills with 400w and no problems.

I would think an upgrade to 600w would be necessary if you are always going uphill or towing something or going long distances all the time. Sg has no hills and traffic jams won't last that "long", so 400w should be fine.

Thanks for the enlightenment.

I don't think 600w is needed for long distance drive. At high speed, there are more cool air than in the city.

Re: Engine Overheat Warning - Replaced water pump, thermostat, top hose

I may be wrong so we should all ask PML, who may say we should get 1000w coz AD must be right...

Re: Engine Overheat Warning - Replaced water pump, thermostat, top hose

I think radiator and compressor different also.

When it comes to air conditioning, i think it is pure BS. As if Italy/Greece/Spain is not as hot as Sg during Summer.

For engine cooling system, yes. The main diff is the higher power fan.

I don't think so lar.

Melbourne is even hotter than Sg during summer. Do they need to be tropicalised?

Nowadays, there are more & more common parts over different geographical location to cut cost.

Re: Engine Overheat Warning - Replaced water pump, thermostat, top hose

Perhaps the 600w was designed for back-to-back jam situations in certain tropical countries where the cars suck in hot exhaust gases all the time because drivers have to stay one inch behind the car in front for fear of being cut by other cars / honked by the car behind for letting other cars cut.

Come to think of it, maybe we need a 1000w one just for SG roads and driver temperament. :errr:

Does this means that all the PML F10 in SG is using the 400w fans and basically, there are no diff in cooling system (radiator, oil cooling coil, fans, aircons, etc.) between PML and PI version? If so, then PML statements are really BS....

Actually, I am quite keen on the PI 528i M Sport variant (much cheaper than PML). But concerned about the diff in cooling hardware specs and the story of overheating claimed by PML.

That's BS to me.

If SA tell you BMW need tropicalization, tell them to give a detail list of items that are diff from temperate country. Very likely they will not be able to provide. Nowadays, a lot of sales person are not very technically trained. They can only BS those who don't do research.

I do not think there r many critical differences unless your car was meant for polar regions where cooling fan is redundant. Most PI cars are from Japan, HK or UK, so should be quite safe. My opinion only hor...

that said, PI cars are not a new thing. We have many forummers here who have/had PI BMWs n mind u, not ur 316 or 318 types ok...it's M3 n 335 types. No diff from PML cars.

I sell soya bean drinks will say mine is best Sg taste, kenntona's one is M'sia taste n will get diabetes.

Thanks for the insights. I am currently planning to get my first bimmer and in the process of doing my homework in comparing between PML and PI version. I guess now the only diff between PI and PML is the warranty and service level....

Re: Engine Overheat Warning - Replaced water pump, thermostat, top hose

The key is not to just compare PML vs PI, it's PML vs Quality PI.

Yes, that's very true. Actually, I am comparing it with Vincar. So far, I heard some positive feedbacks about them from mycarforum. Anyone from bmw-sg buy their bimmers from Vincar before? How's their experience?

U should buy MW dinner. He will give a super long lecture on the comparison btw PML vs Quality PI. Mind you, his 555 is also PI.

Hi all,

Just to share an occurrence 2 weeks ago on the engine overheating warning symbol on my E60.

Collected car in the evening from the car park, drove for 20mins. Noticed a very loud sound from the engine compartment. Shortly, engine overheating symbol in orange color appear ........ The accompanying warning message was something like "Drive your car slowly and let the engine cool down"

I drove to a nearby car park and stop my engine, I opened my bonnet and the fan is still running vigorously. The fan only stopped after few minutes. Waited for a while and try topping up the radiator water... Manage to top up around 200ml.

Start my engine again, no warning message, but just as I was driving out of the car park, the engine overheat warning symbol appears in RED this time and the message was 'Stop your engine immediately and contact your nearest BMW representative."

Fortunately, I was not far away from my workshop and I manage to reach the workshop safely amid the RED symbol which was giving me a fright during the journey.

Workshop diagnose and told me the water pump, thermostat and top hose requires replacement. Bought parts from stockist, car repaired and collected the following day.

I am glad problem happen before CNY and car is good now.......

In the meanwhile, wishes all forumers a Happy CNY!

hi bro, can PM or sms me at 8.3.9.9.3.6.8.8 the price for the changes. am getting the same issues on my ride. hoping for an indication before i reach the workshop today

thanks and much appreciated!

Re: Engine Overheat Warning - Replaced water pump, thermostat, top hose

My car dealer pickup my car to workshop and give me a replacement car during repair. Change thermostat , pump and coolant refill @$2k, since it was under warranty , no need to pay single cents. After repair dealer send car to my office. Quite lucky to meet those honest dealer.
