Dear BMW car owners and car experts
Unlucky me to start having this problem 1 month before warranty expires. Car and engine started vibrating at rest and on driving. Took car into East Coast Centre, and they said it was due to faulty ignition coil, valvetronic actuator motor, and VANOS solenoids. They also discovered choked vent hoses and oil separators after noticing "cooked oil". They relaced all these, as well as hydraulic tappets. Took car back on 26 August after 8 days in work shop, and it happened again 5 September. So I had the car towed back to East Coast Centre today.
Before this the car drove beautifully, and I thought I would never drive another make of car again. Now I am thinking, should I try Audi, Lexus or Mercedes, if they will be more reliable
But as far as I know the new Audi A4 and Mercedes C class still dont drive as well as a 3 series.
Advice needed:
(1) Does this sound serious?
(2) Will it have permanent damage to engine?
(3) What if it happens again in 2 months after my warranty expires?
(4) Should I trade in my car after this repair?
(5) Anyone with this problem? How did it pan out?
It is such a waste to trade in a BMW after warranty expiry, as is common practice for any make of car in Singapore, that I am tempted to keep the car for another 2 years before trading in. But I shudder at the repair bills. The East Coast guy told me the repair bill was between 3-4K.
Dave
