Engine vibration problem in 320i and Warranty Expiry

Dear BMW car owners and car experts

Unlucky me to start having this problem 1 month before warranty expires. Car and engine started vibrating at rest and on driving. Took car into East Coast Centre, and they said it was due to faulty ignition coil, valvetronic actuator motor, and VANOS solenoids. They also discovered choked vent hoses and oil separators after noticing "cooked oil". They relaced all these, as well as hydraulic tappets. Took car back on 26 August after 8 days in work shop, and it happened again 5 September. So I had the car towed back to East Coast Centre today.

Before this the car drove beautifully, and I thought I would never drive another make of car again. Now I am thinking, should I try Audi, Lexus or Mercedes, if they will be more reliable:(
But as far as I know the new Audi A4 and Mercedes C class still dont drive as well as a 3 series.

Advice needed:
(1) Does this sound serious?
(2) Will it have permanent damage to engine?
(3) What if it happens again in 2 months after my warranty expires?
(4) Should I trade in my car after this repair?
(5) Anyone with this problem? How did it pan out?

It is such a waste to trade in a BMW after warranty expiry, as is common practice for any make of car in Singapore, that I am tempted to keep the car for another 2 years before trading in. But I shudder at the repair bills. The East Coast guy told me the repair bill was between 3-4K.

Halo all

I need some advice
My CSA told me it is ignition coil again, in fact the same ignition coil that he replaced two weeks ago
He could not tell me the root cause of this repeated damage to the ignition coil
Do I take it to Juzz or BVO? Do I take it to Alexandra?
I am too worried to accept his gibberish

Re: Engine vibration problem in 320i and Warranty Expiry

dude, just get them to replace the ignition coil again.

Re: Engine vibration problem in 320i and Warranty Expiry

hi,
This are common problems (wear and tear) that will happen as millage increases. Good to have them changed before warranty expired as they will last for the next 2-3years.

As for ignition coil that broke down in just 2 weeks, I believed this is just 'that ignition coil'.....get it changed again and ask for extended warranty for the ignition system ONLY even after your normal 3 years period. I believe this is reasonably.

Usually this will happen when the car is about 3 years old....a couple of my friends have them CHANGED just before the warranty expired...consider luck for you too.

Re: Engine vibration problem in 320i and Warranty Expiry

Please check with ur CSA regarding the warranty for the replacement parts. You may be entitled to a warranty on those parts that were replaced. However, please check with him/her 1st.

Re: Engine vibration problem in 320i and Warranty Expiry

Hi. I encountered the same low idling problem and have sent my car in.
Believe it's the faulty ignition coil as well.
Any updates on your car?
My warranty expires in 3 mths time.
Hope it won't cost a bomb for this repair.
