Engine vibration

Hi all, need advise on this issue - engine vibrates a little when the vehicle is stationary. Was worse when I used SPC gas before? What's wrong? Please advise. Thanks a milion!

Re: Engine vibration

Could be due to one of several problem. In general, check ICV (Idle Control Valve) if you have one, else, check fuel line & system as in fuel starvation, MAF sensor, Pressure regulator etc etc.

Perhaps if you can elaborate your situation further and providing your engine model then those with similar experience would be able to dawn some light on your case.

Best is still seek the advise from a workshop competant with your make and model as they probably have tended to a wide scenario of hick ups and can shorten the troubleshooting process. You can then come back for second opinion if in doubt.

Re: Engine vibration

what model car you are driving and the year of make would be useful.

It could just be the engine mountings that are worn.

Re: Engine vibration

hi guys, appreciate the prompt response. Not the techy type let me check out the details. Thx!!!

Re: Engine vibration

I'm having the same problem with my E60 5.2.3. Bought at ard MAY '06.
It vibrates every time i shift my gear to Parking or neutral. Even if i stop at a red light and shift the gear the neutral it vibrates also.
I sent my car ard 2 mths back to check up on it, but they told me some rubbish like the engine vibration is in the range of the tolerance so its actually ok for them. Gave them some scolding and managed to send my car in today and exchanged for a courtesy 5.2.3 for the time being while they do another check.
Will update on it.
Any guys out there facing the same problem?
Maybe u wanna share on it?

Re: Engine vibration

Goodness- I have a similar problem as well. I currently driving a E46 320i. It has been months and I feel vibration most on the steering wheel. Been to countless workshops, PML and countless test drive with PML S.A. Everyt time I asked about the vibration on the wheel, they rebuke by saying its normal etc etc and this is a double vanos crap and thus vibration is there. Is it true? I don't think so... It vibrates much more at idle at 700 rpm. Once accelerator is pushed, vibration reduce and becomes smoother.

I have spoken to countless people - my opinion as the driver - the car didn't feel like this when new. Now, PML kept brushing the complaint away. Which is which? I have no avenues to turn to...

Any one any advice what I should do?

I have already tried wheel alignment, wheel rotation, engine mounting, fan clutch change.

On yes, when I turn off the aircon - it gets better. Is the compressor?

Re: Engine vibration

Wow.. 2 models suffering from vibrations. Well I'm on a less complicated E36 and mostly it's due to ICV, pressure regulator, throttle plate position and one time, it was the charcoal filter. Basically, I'm looking at air-fuel ratio and ignition as basis of trouble-shooting... that should also includes sensors like CO (some call it O2), crank sensor and AFM.

Any bro with similar experiences on those model mentioned care to highlight?

Re: Engine vibration

Could very well be the engine mounting. BMW uses hydraulic mounts and these tend to wear faster than rubber variants due to the heat...a weak engine mount will sag, causing vibrations to be transfered to the chassis.

Re: Engine vibration

Strange. Tried engine mounting even - still vibrates..don't tell me it's gear?

Re: Engine vibration

most likely spark plugs. Will the cars constantly using the air con, and the humidity here, plus slow driving, I bet the plugs get killed quickly.

I bet they just need a tune up, but make sure the wokshop tunes the car with the air con ON.

Re: Engine vibration

its normal all my bmw vibrates. 5,6,7.
its mild and this is esp so when u just switch from jap cars that dont vibrate that mouch.

Re: Engine vibration

Thanks! I certainly hope it's nothing major. But hang on, isn't tuning quite major as well? WHo does them well - BVO , J4C? please advise..

Re: Engine vibration

really - I hope so.
But what if when I step on the accelerator and I could feel vibration at the wheel base and base of the car? Should I raise any concerns?

Re: Engine vibration

Hi Phil - any advice on workshop who can do a good tuning and how much it will costs.

Appreciate it.

Re: Engine vibration

Hi... you can find a list of workshop that does bmw in the following link;

I know it's quite sickening to feel your car vibrates excessively.. minor is nice though...likes engine's saying "I'm alive"... and I have that all the time.

Re: Engine vibration

Thanks Jaws - you have been helpful. Appreciate it. I start having these issues since driving a Honda Jazz for like a week. Now coming back to my car - I felt the vibration etc. it probably been there all thge while. Japanese cars are very smooth though i MUST SAY
