F10 nav not the most friendly so pls share what you think or anything problem? For me:

Firstly, Cannot search by postal code is a pain
Usually i search by street name but cannot key in block number so got to find the block myself once i am there. But the nav is quite precise

Secondly once the destination is reach, how to switch the nav off?

Thanks

Re: Everything about F10 Nav

Hello,

BMW original nav and many other european makes' navigation have the same system. They does not have a 6 digits post code like what singapore uses. The so-called Postcode in these navigation system is actually their Area code. You can key in the first two digits of our singapore postcode and the system will narrowed to only streets in this area. This already helped by displaying only the related streets in this area. You should be able to find the place you want within this area. To turn off the nav guidance after reached destination, go to the side menu bar on the left, go to where you key in your destination to stop the guidance. At the times, when you reached your destination, the compass on the instrument cluster will still show guidance. To do the guidance away, you just have activate 'start the guidance' and 'stop the guidance' again. This is due to a bug in the software.

So far, personally find that bmw navigation is much better than garmins, papago and agis i used to have. Besides a big map display on bmw screen, I am able to get my direction accurately in sheltered areas eg. Basements, tunnels. And i also play dvd movies at one side of the screen and still use navigation guide at the other side :)

Actually, in germany they allow user to enter more than 2 digit for postal code (i think they use 5 or 6 digit in Germany - used it in their rental car, F30 as well), i think they just screw up Singapore implementation. The map from LTA (or whatever agencies) could pinpoint the block by 6-digit postal code, no excuse not to use it unless they are lazy or too complicated for BMW to implement.

Me too gave up with the postal code search, usually search by road name, luckily it is smart enough to predict the road name...

I just wish they enable BMW Live (Google map search specifically), so we can do google map search (more accurate & updated all the time), and just transfer the search result to the in-car Nav.... that way, we could still search by 6-digit postal code.

Re: Everything about F10 Nav

Under the "street name", there is an "building name", which is useful if you want to find a point(building) instead a line (street).

Google local search can be easily activated, through which you can search company name, telephone number, but it seems that we still can not search by postal search, though we can search postal code in "map.google.com.sg"

Live Traffic in BMW NAVI is by far the best TMC in town, it can show clearly the jam location and direction and begin/end point.

Now the new feature for iPhone's iOS6 is interesting: "SMS and Email" read-out:
how to:
1. upgrade your iphone to iOS6.
2. pair iPhone with CIC, select your phone, press button "option" on iDrive, find bluetooth setting, tick "office"
3. in CIC, go to office, press button "option" on iDrive, tick "message" via bluetooth
4. click the "thanks" below.
5. done

You finish the step 1 and 2 completely? If yes, then my instruction may only valid for some certain cars. Sorry. Now tried 4-5 cars F10 (2011-2012), all working well.

Had mine activated for traffic & bmw online (gum siah!!!), then went to read and found out google local search is nothing more than a fancy phone book directory by google, which has since abandon by google since Nov'2010, their new project is now called google place.

Good news is the bmw online seems to be just a "webpage" in idrive format disguise (different feature enable dependent on the region you selected in the settings), so hopefully in time to come bmw team will just update it to whatever...

still, i miss the full google map search capability... just punch the 6 digit postcode

Acherley the google local search works very well from the Nav system.

From guidance - enter new destination - google you can search by postal code for most places. You can also search for food, petrol station etc etc. I often use it instead of using the BMW standard search.

Another useful thing is if you have BMW online iPhone my BMW remote app you can alo do the google local search in your iPhone and click send to car and it appears as a message. From the message you can click guidance directly. Very useful if you want to enter a guidance destination before getting to the car. You need BMW online activated.
