Exhaust modification

hi,

have some questions about exhaust modification

a. custom built exhaust by workshop -> not loud at all, sound very stock (ie: custom make exhaust to look like M3 quads, etc)

Q: if it sound very stock the likelihood of stopped by ROV is very low right ? so, this is pretty safe and during lta inspection can put back the stock muffler.

b. modify stock exhaust piping (ie: twin to quad)

Q: is lta inspection very anal about modifying the original piping. not talking about operating the muffler for loud. more like modify piping to fit specific aftermarket diffuser. another choice is chop off the stock muffler tip and add fake swee tips to the diffuser but with no air pushing out.

c. modify lta approved aftermarket exhaust (ie: piping and tips)

Q: same like (b), the purpose to modify the piping and tips is to fit swee swee to aftermarket diffuser.

is there a different in severity for a, b and c ? all are fines $500 ?

thanks !

Re: Exhaust modification

Here's my take bro..

However, I could be wrong ok..

A. If your ride does not come with quads and you change it to quads using a NON LTA compliant Exhaust set = ILLEGAL

Q. If no sound... likely chances to STOP by LTA is MINIMAL..

B. Modified Stock Exhaust Piping.. Twin to Quad = ILLEGAL

Q. is lta inspection very anal about modifying the original piping. not talking about operating the muffler for loud. more like modify piping to fit specific aftermarket diffuser.

THEY'RE VERY ANAL... as long as you modify the exhaust which is non lta compliant.. thats it..

However... it depends on luck..

C. modify lta approved aftermarket exhaust (ie: piping and tips) = ILLEGAL

Q: same like (b), the purpose to modify the piping and tips is to fit swee swee to aftermarket diffuser.

I did it before and they simply say its illegal... although no sound..

In terms of severity, you have to see which LTA stops you.. they can KPKB and fine every single detail.

It can be from SGD300 onwards..

For me.. I just modified my exhaust and my windows are ..... want to mod illegally, just do it all the way.. 1 time kenna better..

Sorry if I am disrespectful or be a bad apple in the BMW community for I've seen an uncle who showed disgust when he saw my car.. simply cause my windows are too dark.

But I hack care.. cause at the end of the day, my ride looks better than his.. and I pay the fines, not him..

MTL!!!!!

Bro, if you really want to mod exhaust to how you like (follow your heart), then don't bother to think legal or illegal...:whipper: you have to bear the risk...

If you want something absolutely legal, then go buy those certified LTA compliant and that's it... (whether it sounds too soft or loud, nothing you can do)...

But one thing, I recommend you to keep your stock exhaust and don't mod it...just in case you might need it..;)

Re: Exhaust modification

chop the stock tips and install a "short tip" point downward to release fume like c180 tiny holes
then install swee swee exhaust tips at diffuser for cosmetic and this considered legal ?
this might be better than 1 side got smoke and 1 side no smoke

so long 1 side is legal.....................unless there's a quad that is legal ( why not? no harm )

Hi, as long as its not LTA approve or Stock, its illegal. Welding of tips sometimes okie sometimes not okie.. Depending on luck (grey zone wor)

If only for looks, weld a used exhaust tip on e other side & get an approved twin tips exhaust better, safer & more Wu Hua mod ~ :)

Re: Exhaust modification

in my opinion,

customise a new quad piping and box. not too loud, yet a very slight improvement gained. keep the stock box and swap over during inspection.

Re: Exhaust modification

good point. the worry is customised exhaust does not work well with the engine
i know that even by enlarging 318/320 piping by tiny centimeter already has negative effect.
this could be the answer -> http://www.bmw-sg.com/forums/kbs-motorsport/24406-custom-made-rear-muffler.html

Re: Exhaust modification

this will be my 2nd choice if lta approved quad is a no go due to price and severe loss of low end

Re: Exhaust modification

yes there will be a slight loss of power in your low end. you have a powerbox right? just go back to boss and do a refresh of the powerbox. everything should be ok then.

Re: Exhaust modification

ok ... here is the update of the modification by putting a fake tips on the right
quad is the way to go ... ac323 says one
