F10 523i Highline questions

Hello everyone!

Currently I'm driving 2011 523i Highline.

First of all this ride doesn't have a reverse cam, shift paddle, sport and sports plus mode. Only have sports mode by pushing the gear to the left. I thought Highline model have those?

Is it me or the there is an acceleration lag? When I give more gas, the power comes only about 1 sec later. Is there anyway to have a faster response time?

About the fuel consumption, is it possible because the car is under power that's why it is eating so much petrol (correct me if I am wrong)? I drive normal, never 'zhua' also can hit 10.5 - 10.7 km/100L. I pump shell 98. If I pump 95 will it be better fuel consumption? but I heard will have lesser power because 95 harder to burn.

Anyway, I'm looking to buy a M5 bumper, anyone can intro some cheap and good place to get it?
Is white tail light a good idea? Is it legal or illegal?

Btw I am new so please pardon if I ask or say anything stupid. 请多多请教!

Assuming it’s PML car. They have diff spec even though it’s a high line model. Pre jun 2011, I think the screen is smaller with 17 inch wheels. Post jun it has wider screen with sat nav, paddle shift, sports plus and reverse cam etc. this is all I remember of my f10. PI, then I dun know what is the equipment level when they call it high line.

As to FC, that would probably be the last of the concern. But for your interest, I get about 7.5 with esso supreme. I don’t think the car is under powered but more of just nice from my opinion. It’s an in-line 6 engine, how worse can it be compared to a normal 4 pot.

Body kit? Tonnes of suppliers here... just run a search and pick the right one that you are happy with.

Hi!

I'm driving a 2010 523i Highline, same as yours without the options you mentioned but I have done all the mod on it within PML warranty. Have been driving this coming to 8 years and only managed to get 8.5 km/l. but with 20" rims.

Hello Haoo

Reverse cam, shift paddle and the Driving Experience button (that toggles Normal, Sport & Sport+ modes) are add-on options that your previous owner might not have added.

Hence, it is quite subjective to what the previous owner had specced out originally in the F10.

You can retrofit the Driving Experience button (less than $500), and most reputable audio shops would also be able to retrofit the reverse camera compatible with iDrive for you.

Regarding the FC, it is subject to a lot of different considerations. Here are some for your reference:
  1. Tyre size & pressure - what tyre profiles you are using, what pressure do you keep them at, and how wide they are matters. The wider the tyre, the more friction - means more energy expended.
  2. Rims size & weight - what size rims you are on as well as the weight of the rims also makes a difference. General rule of thumb is that the larger the rim, e.g. 19", 20", the heavier the consumption. However, if you compensate with a larger but lighter rim, it might negate itself out.
  3. Driving style - everyone's right foot is different. The F10 is a heavy car - so being able to cadence the throttle to get it to move by inertia from rest could be a driving technique you might be unfamiliar with. Normal reaction is of course to step more to pump more gas in the hope of moving the car forward faster. But sometimes, a more refined/subtle touch might yield the best results.
  4. Driving route - how much highway versus city road driving also matters. The more time you spend idling at the traffic light, the less efficient your car becomes. Also, getting stuck in a highway jam where you are travelling at super low speeds also lowers the fuel efficiency.
So as you can see, there are so many permutations and possibilities that make up your drive feel. So just get to know your car better and maybe you can figure out what works best for you.

By the way, I drive a 523i myself as well.
