If u r using iPhone, turn on the "hotspot" in the setting.
If u r using S3, go setting, more setting, tethering and portable hotspot, turn on hotspot and tick Bluetooth tethering.
Then in idrive, go to BMW services and choose Internet. There u go but the cursor is not very user friendly.

Mine is S3 too. I had been reading SMS in the car for a month or so until recently I noticed my latest SMS were not loaded to the idrive. So I unpaired and pair it again. Who knows ...... No more SMS in the idrive.
Then I took my daughter s3 to pair and her SMS appeared on the idrive. I really dun know what happened. I thought maybe some 3rd party apps on my S3 crashed with the SMS, so I deleted almost all the apps which I had downloaded myself but still can't work. I checked my S3 phone setting with my daughter's and make sure they are the same. Till now, I still cannot transfer my SMS to the anymore. Very frustrating.
During pairing, two pop-up appears on the phone screen, asked permission to transfer messages and the other is permission to transfer contacts. I pressed ok for both but only contacts are transferred. HEADACHE MAN !!!!

From what I read, SMS is not sync to idrive the way contacts are sync (but i could be wrong), at least for iphone it works because of the notification settings, i.e. when new SMS is received, the notification pops up, which trigger the SMS display on i-drive...
Another "settings" I'd check on the phone is, assuming the SMS does sync, usually under the phone bluetooth settings, did you turn on/allowed SMS to be sync?
