F10 Cigarette Lighter Socket Not Working

Hi folks,

Any F10 owners have had a problem with your front cigarette lighter socket, i.e. the one in the closed flap between the gear and the dashboard? Mine seems to have stopped working - likely blown a fuse or something. Anyone know if this is a common problem and how much it would cost to have it fixed?

Thanks :)
J

I know e90 but not sure about F10.....

Socket FTW.

Re: F10 Cigarette Lighter Socket Not Working

My previous E90 never had a problem. Bah... sianz!

Re: F10 Cigarette Lighter Socket Not Working

The fuse is about 2-3 dollars. To replace the fuse is 5 minutes. To check which fuse takes you 5 mins to read the fuse map next to the fuse box.

Use a long nose plier or your fuse box may come with a fuse forceps to pull the fuse out. You can see if the fuse is blown as its transparent.

You can buy the fuse from PML or MA.

I bought mine from MA. Walked in......asked if they can change the fuse. They said busy have to wait. So I asked ask for a 10A fuse. Paid $2. Walked out. Went to my car and swapped the fuse at their car park. Drove off.

Re: F10 Cigarette Lighter Socket Not Working

F10 got 2 fuse box, the one within glove compartment will be a pain in the ass to change cos of space constraints

Re: F10 Cigarette Lighter Socket Not Working

Your F10 should still falls within the warranty period ......right?

Re: F10 Cigarette Lighter Socket Not Working

I suggest you send to a qualified technician instead of DIY unless you are confident and know what you are doing.

Re: F10 Cigarette Lighter Socket Not Working

If under warranty, PML should replace for free. My SA did it for me previously, as it was a simple job and didn't require technician to do it.

However if it still didn't work (like in my case), then it is not just the fuse problem alone....

Re: F10 Cigarette Lighter Socket Not Working

Alternatively can use bimshop's long nose plier when you bring it in to do makeovers ....

Thanks folks!! The car is still under warranty so I'll take it to PML. I was just curious if these things happen often :)

That said, I really appreciate the responses and suggestions. Thanks y'all!

Re: F10 Cigarette Lighter Socket Not Working

I went to Volvo and they replaced it for me FOC and under 5 mins.

end OT.

Just change fuse only. regardless of new or old car, such issues can happen. could be triggered by suddenly insertion of foreign object into the cigarette lighter (sounds so very wrong lor! ) like your phone charger, when engine is running...that causes it to blow.
My service tech recommends that the phone charger be plugged in before car starts to prevent this from happening.
not that its a major problem, but just inconvenient. so i just followed his instructions.

Quite true, my lighter pod has a metal thing inside (I think paper clip or what, I can't remember), so the fuse kept blowing no matter how many I changed.
Sart sart Rod diagnosed it for me and rectified the problem. Otherwise I kept changing fuse and still didn't manage to resolve the problem.
That's why correct diagnosis is the most important. Anyone can change parts.....Dash say one...
