F10 gearbox

Hi senior,

I am looking to change to a used F10 5 series (still deciding on which model), but I read that some members feedback having problem with gearbox on the 523i.......

May I know if there is any difference between the 8spd gearbox of the F10 523i and the rest of the F10 5 series (520i, 528i & 535i) ? As so far only read abt problem from 523i. Appreciate ur advise.

All f10 come with the 8 speed gearbox which should mean it is the same across the range

a few feedbacks vs the thousands of F10 523i owners in Singapore does not equate to it being a "common" or "big" problem. Further, the E60 LCI gearboxes also had similar or more problems but then you still see many buying E60 LCI last time and it is a good car. In fact, both F10 523 and E60 523/525 are really good cars...what you need is a GOOD PREVIOUS OWNER if its a used one you are buying. A GOOD PREVIOUS OWNER would really take care of his car, and even when the gearbox presents problems, he gets it sorted out (after some ranting of cos).

Having said that, you need to do a lot of homework and have some knowledge of the car you wanted to buy Or you need to send it to a reputable workshop to assess whether its a safe buy...but even that is not foolproof

Is this gearbox also on the F10 525D? The controls look the same on my car which is a 2012, but I know that doesn't necessarily mean the under-pinnings are identical. I'm happy with the transmission and have faced no issues in 15 K kms clocked
