F10 M5 Consumption

Just did a tank of V-Power. Topped up on the 24 Mar and again on 7 Apr. The full tank of 71 litres lasted me 367.6km. That gives me a consumption rate of 5.1 km/l. Ok now, that's slightly better than my M3, which is quite a lot lighter and less powerful. It's no where near what the manufacturer claimed, but my driving pattern is predominantly city driving. My car was set to the following during this tank:

Steering: Sport Plus
Power: Sport Plus
Suspension: Comfort
DCT: D2
Auto Stop/Start: OFF

The above was used throughout. The driving i did with this tank consisted of some spirited driving, but never full throttle. This consumption figure I feel is representative of what i can expect from this car going forward. Am i complaining? Prob not cos my mileage is pretty low as u can see from the above so it's still enough to last me 2 weeks of alternate use with my M3. I am certain u can get better figures by choosing the lesser power mode, but hell, i din buy 560bhp so that i can use half of it...

Just for curiosity what insurance cost for you if you don't mind letting us know. Understand this varies with age and NCB.

Can't remember the exact amount, but around $6k if memory serves me. The car is registered under my wife's name and she only has 10% NCD. The insurance is surprisingly high. I went with MA's insurer, but did my homework beforehand. Their insurer was the cheapest at that time.

Re: F10 M5 Consumption

for city driving, you must drive on bus lane to have better FC.

Lol just don't get caught by bus.

Re: 6k insurance is expected considering the price as spare parts are expensive

and I believe its only insured for a single named driver right?? Good excuse not to let your wife drives....:woottt:

Re: F10 M5 Consumption

I think the Auto Start/Stop function does save some gas. Also not turning on the extra power does help...

I see. I think $6K is reasonable for a M5 then.

I had the auto start/stop in my previous X3 and found it totally unreliable especially when engine is cold.

Drive M must drive like u stole it lah.

This insurer does not practise named driver, but limit driver to have no claims in past 5 years and age restriction i think. Anyway, my wife will not touch the M5 with a 10 foot pole. The size puts her off big time. I am glad she feels that way cos she will prob paint the basement in our estate frozen grey :p

I hated it until I saw the FC. Then I started loving it.

Andy: Driving to and from work during rush hour can't drive it like I stole it mah....

I am not sure how much of a difference auto stop/start makes. I know for a fact that turning down the power mode in the M5 would make a big difference. Honestly, the F10 M5 is really not designed for SG. In D mode on our expressway travelling at the official speed limit of 90kmh, the car won't even shift to 7th gear. It's deemed too slow to select the top gear. That arrogant bastard...

bro by the looks of it , you are gunning it hahha but if you change the fuel to Esso 8000 i am quite sure you will get much better mileage. From my experiences with Vpower it extremely lousy with fuel consumption

Alot of local tuners prefers Esso to Shell V power though.

I think it depends on the setting if its ultra urban lotsa red lights it makes a difference. Was in Malacca recently... 99 second count down for the red light. I think it'll make some difference.

Holy crap, 99 seconds? If we have that in SG, i am sure PAP will lose another GRC...

bro i thought the same too, until i was told most of the local good tuner swear by Esso 98. They say it give the best results on their dynos and actual benmarking test in JB. hahha

I completely agree. The problem with V-Power is that it burns too fast. I alternate between Esso and Caltex. I dont find much difference between them but mileage wise heck alot better than V-Power which I completely stopped using unless lan lan no other stations nearby when empty and even that I'll pump the bare minimum.
