F20 Gear Shifting Jerky

Hi Guys,

does anyone experience jerky gear shifting in low gears and low speed.

Like hesitation before engaging gear, is it a characteristic of the ZF gear box?

1)
I was going down a slope in a carpark having slight pressure on the brakes nothing on the accelerator. Suddenly the whole car jerk forward and change to another gear.

So far happened once.

2)
If i am coming to a hump, i brake lightly then accelerate a bit harder, i get a down gear jerk before acceleration. I guess it thinks i want to accelerate hard so it changes one gear down but its jerky.

Quite frequently

Totally not smooth, is this normal?

Thanks.

I experience the same feel.

Brought back to PML and they said could be adaptation issue.

They erase all data and ask me to readapt again.

The tech said fastest way to do this is to drive on a non congested highway using steptronic and shifting the gears often......minimal start stop.....

So far my jerky feel is gone.....

Yes I did special programming for my DSG too. I did not know the ZF has this too.
Thanks Bro.

Make an appointment with Munich Automobiles and do your software upgrade. This will solve the jerky gear issue.

You have an option to go back PML or Munich, both are Authorised BMW dealers. Some of us, including myself, did it in MA which took about 3-6 hours depending on how old your software is and this service is FREE.

I threw the exact same question to my SE for them to update to the newest software but they claimed that the YOM is 2012 hence software should already be up to date?? Razorray bro, yours I suppose should be YOM 2012 too as well?

yes man. then did you get yours resolved?

Re: F20 Gear Shifting Jerky

Not yet collected but I asked my SE to update mine to the newest. That being the reply I got in return. So if yours is YOM 2012 as well, then what my SE said might not be true...

I also feel it too now... At first when I get my car, it is alright, but then the jerk came. Then I will for the software update by Munich, and the jerk is gone.. But after a while, it is back. Then went to PML for that unfaithful event, again the jerk is gone, but back now.. So I think it is the learning from the ECU that cause the jerk.. Maybe a reset then drove up a free highway will help.. I dunno

Re: F20 Gear Shifting Jerky

Drive it hard occasionally, the jerkiness will go away.

Drive it slow in stop start traffic, the jerk will come back :laughlik:

Anyway, my jerky thingy only comes when I am going up or down my MSCP.. Other than that, no jerk le... So I also presume it to only happen at low gear.. I did once, change to steptronic at MSCP, the jerk is gone... just stay at gear 2

i guess its really adaptation, its there for DCT too. but tuning does help this problem.

let me do some tests. will get back to this thread if i have updates

Test drove the 328i, felt the slight jerk when the gear is changing from high to low when coming to a stop.

The 320i is smoother, did not feel any jerk during the test driving. But of course, the 328i drives better.

The C250 coupe was very smooth transmission, good pick up, responsive and performance drive, drive dynamics is a little short of the F30. When you ramp hard, you can hear the Mercs taxi engine sound.

I do not have this jerk thingy.....next time you let me try your ride. My car only jerk slightly after I put it to park and handbrake.

Re: F20 Gear Shifting Jerky

that one I also have.. but if I let go my brake after i off the engine, the jerk will be gone...
