F20, non-CLI, Blinking gears stick indicator with a gong sound

Hi guys, I did some search but cannot find any conclusive answer to my question. But I am sure some F20 or F30 users had encountered similar situation.

The problem: the car is F20, non-CLI, 8 speed auto. The problem is intermittent, usually happens when shifting gear, P to D, R to D, etc. The indicator on the gear stick will block a few times, the car will sound the gong once, the dash will show a blinking box around the gear indicator. No error message, car drives as normal, no fault recorded in iDrive.

Battery was checked healthy lately, there is a 24hr car recorder attached, but car does not show any battery issue. Gear box oil had been changed 10k km ago. Engine oil replaced 2k km ago. This problem is new to this car.

Anyone experienced this and know the cause?

Only experience this if reverse with door open for example. But even then the idrive will promt secure vehicle from rolling away.

Hello sir. Yes, it's different from what you said. This 3 x blinking plus gong x 1 has no fault indicated on idrive. And there is no record after the alert. The only thing is the gong is audible, like a seat belt not fastened gong and indicator flashes 3 times on the gear stick and box about the year indicator on the dash flashes 3 times in sync with the flashing on the gear stick.

Reported this problem to the servicing workshop during last servicing, but it was a intermittent case, so servicing guy did not saw it and did an odb scan with good results. Therefore I assume this problem does not log in idrive at all.

Any advise from any F series users?
