Dear gurus..

My E90 is having some problems... My fan speed is damn fast and loud... Whats happening? No check light and nothing... Is it overheating?

Re: Fan is on high speed!

Yes water pump. I got the same thing too on my E60. Next thing, car overheated and water pipes burst and can't drive. tow back. They changed everything except the pump. Drove back home overheated again. then went back to change water pump again. After that no more fan sound.

Could be as per others mentioned. Do check the radiator outlet temperature sensor.

Hope all goes well for u ~~ :)

Oh yes, they thought it was the temperature sensor causing the issue. And they didn't any fault on the water pump in the computer so they didn't change the water pump initially. =)

Re: Fan is on high speed!

Then I better do something about it... I just did my servicing at 110000km... In fact, most parts already replaced....

How much does it cost to replace water pump?

Re: Fan is on high speed!

I can't remember offhand. should be a few hundred(300-600). within expectations ( what else to do but to change it as the car can't even be driven? 1000 also need to pay =P. Anyone else can advice him the actual price? I gave all the receipts when the car was sold off.

I thought the E90 fan will kick in damn fast and loud after you drive for some time as the engine can get quite hot after awhile or did TS's fan came on when he drive just for awhile?

Re: Fan is on high speed!

I had the same problem some time back, cause was a small crack on your cooling system.
Not leaking issue but the crack cause airlock in the cooling system and compromised the cooling efficiency (as was told by the workshop)

Not true..

My radiator outlet temperature sensor was replaced as I told them since day one fan kicks in too early. After tat issue solved.

i see...but other than the noise of the fan if it kicks in too early, any other disadvantage to have the fan kicking in early? I always feel for the fan to kick in early may not be a bad thing as it helps to cool the engine bay... Cheers!

There will be a slight reduce in pickup power. May cause premature wear & tear of other parts / sensor. Best is stay with specs / stock settings.

Cheers ~~ :)

Thanks for the advice. Still consider cheap though... Can still drive, but its obvious that somethings not right...

Yeah, I guess theres some loss in power... Only this week, that the fan is always on high speed... Even though I just started the car not long...

Re: Fan is on high speed!

The same thing happened to my e70. Fan speed when high (the moment I hear that I know it's not good news)..then High Temperature warning.. and next thing i see on the idrive is Engine Overheated.
Managed to pull over after a few start stop to safe spot and arrange for their mobile service to come.

Re: Fan is on high speed!

my E93 has the same sympton...loud fan noise after a hour drive...

Re: Fan is on high speed!

Sian lar.. Had a shock on the Fc (5-6km/l) and now this...
Feels like a big lemon now.

Re: Fan is on high speed!

My workshop recommended me to change a new water pump, which cost $200+. Not sure if thats the cause of the problem.
