Re: Fatal accident on PIE this morning (Hari Raya Haji)

how does a prime mover jump onto oncoming traffic... i cannot imagine how fast the vehicle may have been travelling..

condolences to the families affected.

Rip..........................

Re: Fatal accident on PIE this morning (Hari Raya Haji)

Well have seen prime movers overtake me aggressively even when Im travelling at 100km/hr, only gods know how fast they have been travelling.

But for accidents difficult to say, cos some kuku bird may have cut into his lane abruptly causing the driver to swerve and landed up in the opp lane. May NOT have been speeding, the mass is so huge that braking distance and traction may have been an issue, swerving may have been the only option to avoid the crash.

Anyways shan't jump to conclusions but give benefit of doubt to the said driver. RIP to the little girl.

Re: Fatal accident on PIE this morning (Hari Raya Haji)

RIP for the little girl..

btw, from the description, the deceased was sitting in the prime mover right? those prime movers, do they even have enough seat belts?
i am sure you have seen sometimes, pick up trucks/ lorries being used for family outings during weekends... you would see driver and his wife and kids in the front seats. those are really dangerous and without seat belts.. the wide open wind screen is not a good stopper at all when sudden brake jamming stop happens..

Re: Fatal accident on PIE this morning (Hari Raya Haji)

This is really very sad news. And I totally blame the farking retarded parents for not belting their kid up. The kid is too young to have a choice over her own life and death. But the parents did. Idiots.

Re: Fatal accident on PIE this morning (Hari Raya Haji)

Just playing the Devil's advocate here: what if the driver was giving the child and her guardian a lift home for the first time, just a one off? There's no child seat normally. Does that change the way we judge the choices made by the adults?

Re: Fatal accident on PIE this morning (Hari Raya Haji)

yes still irresponsible in wotever way i think
take bus if taxi is too expensive

Re: Fatal accident on PIE this morning (Hari Raya Haji)

A responsible parent will not even allow a once-off. Even if the odds are very big, that still means it can still happen. You see almost impossible odds happening every week when Toto winners are announced. So if you really hope you can strike Toto, how can you dismiss the chances of shit happening just in that once-in-a-lifetime journey that lasts 5 mins?

Its not a chance where you take and the results are that you miss your TV program, you miss signing up the swim team for commonwealth games, you miss the chance to land a job. The result is death. And it has been demonstrated. Many times. If you read the straits times regularly you will find similar stories happening time and again.

And if you want to take that chance, you live with the consequence and the guilt. And people on internet forums will brand you as an idiot. What's the use of going for regular health checks, eating organic food, watching your calories, exercising regularly, trying not to catch STD, staying away from drugs, quitting smoking, when you dont want to wear seat belt? No logic. I have forgotten how many times I have almost quarrelled with my parents/PIL/seniors because they erronously think the laws of physics do not apply to them in the back seat.

Hand up, how many of you think the back of a taxi is completely immune to accidents. And somehow when you take a cab, you sit at the back and you never wear a seatbelt?

Re: Fatal accident on PIE this morning (Hari Raya Haji)

also to me the most idiotic and irresponsible parents are those who have the little ones in their arms in the FRONT passenger seat... don't they know air bag kills!? what are these people thinking? are they ignorant or just plain idiots?

I agree taking a taxi isn't the solution cos seatbelts won't hold a small child. But not every family can afford a car. What, then, are parents supposed to do?

We can't judge adults caught in a bad situation because sometimes there are no solutions. Sure, even pedestrians get mowed down by traffic, but that would be beside the point :) The reason I asked is because I've ever ferried small children on one-time trips (no child seats) and it made me uncomfortable thinking about the risks. But would I rather drive or outsource the job to a stranger?

(by the way why are wanting to strike Toto, what did he do this time :lol2:)

Re: Fatal accident on PIE this morning (Hari Raya Haji)

I admit that I am one of those few who sometimes ferry my wife and daughter in the front seat, but only short distances from my place to parents (less then 3km). Sometimes I just feel a bit lazy to go through the hassle of putting her in the child seat when the journey is just down the road.

Reading Racebred's post knocked some sense into me..

you must be driving a two doors?
dun meant to call names..but good on you.. it is well published those airbags when deployed has force strong enough to cause permanent injuries though it safes lives. For kids.. different stories.

Got a friend, smacked by a deployed airbag in an e46 bimmer in one fluke accident, he bent forward to pick up something from the cabin floor, at the same time the driver got distracted and hit road center divider.. POW! airbag went off. my friend was temporarily blinded at the impact of the exploding airbag.... he was ok 24 hour later... he swears now he will sit as far back as possible from airbag compartment..

Re: Fatal accident on PIE this morning (Hari Raya Haji)

airbags saved me once...airbags ftw

rip to the little girl...:(

Re: Fatal accident on PIE this morning (Hari Raya Haji)

Feel sad for the girl....

Anyway, what we talking about is human. Tee kee... Knowing the consequences but choose to ignore it. Can't say about others as it starts from oneself.

Re: Fatal accident on PIE this morning (Hari Raya Haji)

Hmmm... i feel, if there's a will there's a way. It's like bringing your own bags to the supermarket. It's not impossible to save using plastic bags. It's whether you want to make an effort or not. People bring along their own booster seats or child restraints. In Singapore, taxi no need. So people dont use it coz the law doesnt force them to.

But have you travelled to certain countries where if you have a kid, you MUST dial for a cab equipped with the proper child restraints, and taxis that you flag down will refuse to ferry you if they realise you have a child and you did not bring your own safety restraints. The law forces people to not take that risk.

But then again this is natural selection I guess. It's like the irony of the helmet law. The helmet law is in place so that it forces the protection of the brain which cannot think for itself to wear the helmet in the first place.
