Fatter rear tyres to cure oversteer

No, negative camber cannot really cure oversteer per say.

Hi des, why?

I always thought that while its true that negative camber gives a larger contact patch when cornering, and hence prevent loss of traction at the rear wheels, it is always better to cure whats causing the oversteer in the first place, that being the transfer of weight from one side of the car to the other. if there is less weight transfer from side to side, then wouldn't the chances of oversteer be less? hence, the stiffer springs, shocks and anti-roll bars? I might be wrong though... my 2 cents worth.

Total lateral weight transfer is fixed by CG, track, and speed through turn (tire Cf, patch, patch orientation). Spring stiffness or length of travel does not affect it (though ride height does through affecting CG). Spring stiffness, shock damping, and ARB stiffness do not affect total weight transfer, but only the % of that total that loads the front or rear tires on that side when turning - shocks almost purely influencing the transient FR transfer, whilst springs and ARB determine the permanent FR distribution of transferred weight after the car has taken a set (completed lateral weight transfer and FR distribution of that weight at that given G loading. ) Springs and ARB affect transient but far less than shocks since shock damping varies with speed of shaft travel.

I believe camber is a legitimate way to cure oversteer, though in this case not one of the first options to try, it being a street car that sees far less corner than straight time. As long as a loose end it being stuck, and not a stuck end being unstuck to try and achieve the over/understeer balance, then I think it is a step in the right direction.

Thanks for enlightening me... hahah! shows me that I have long way to go... but I agree with you that on a street car, camber is not the best way to cure oversteer... you would be going through 1 set of tyres every month...
