Feedbacks : For E90 323i - What is your FC?

is changing the HPFP a major job? With software upgrade how many days to need to leave your car at PML? Will upgrade the Power Kit by BMW Performance help in the FC?

I sent the car to PML on a Monday morning and spent the whole morning talking to the Advisers. The HPFP replacement and software upgrade were done under warranty and were completed on either Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning. The car spent another two days at the bodywork department for some minor body repair at my own cost.

I think performance upgrade should increase rather than save FC. I am not into modification though and I intend to keep it a stock car :D

Re: Feedbacks : For E90 323i - What is your FC?

How do the car feel after they change the HPFP? Any changes?

Re: Feedbacks : For E90 323i - What is your FC?

Hi NightWind, had my ride for 24 months so far.
Yes my car is sluggish at times, not necessary morning only but its normally after being driven for some time say 30-40km, or between rides places to places, especially under hot sun. I don't take risk driving to Malaysia.

Think I consider remapping ECU later after CNY. Like the other bros said...must maximize the Sheer Driving Pleasure.

How long have u had your ride and do u drive interstate? Is the engine sluggish some times at low speeds...e.g. in the morn when u start off?

Mine is...my FC was so bad in Jan...it was 18L to 100km!!! Thank god it improved every month as the engine loosened up and after the oil change.

However I also know frens with same rides who have FCs of 12-13L per 100km...

Do u thinkj FC for 325i will be better? Thks

I am not much of a driving aficiondo and do not do much hard driving, so I may not be a good judge of performance. But I can feel that the car is noticeably smoother during low rev. They could have tuned down the engine a little but I guess ordinary folks like me won't be able to tell the difference in terms of the power delivery.

Thanks, yah my engine gets hot too.....but i also look at the oil temp gauge and so far even on hot days it rarely exceeds 120 degrees.

I also check and top-up the collant every fortnightly.

The other thing is after i stop the engine after say a 45min drive, there is alot of water leaking from the under carriage. I know its not oil or coolant...probably just air-con condensation. This happened in my old e90 ride too. Does it happen also for your ride?

Wow u covered 60,000km in 24 months...and u dont go interstate? how do u manage this kinda distance on our sinkapoor roads?

And how do u enjoy the "sheer driving pleasure" if u drive only on our sinkapoor roads? Every day to and from work my average speed is about 40-50kph.....

But I also agree with u.....driving up north is a risk and i also worry...but i figure its ok if i drive non-stop to the hotel or relatives house and park the car there. It should be ok if ur relative has a electronic gate with cameras, sensors and rockwellers dogs.....mine does...:)

Re: Feedbacks : For E90 323i - What is your FC?

Oh....I bought mine when it was 39,000km, so for past 2 yrs I drove for only 22,000km. I'd never try driving to malaysia, I scared lah. But I can imagine a convoy (50 x E90) of bimmers up the NSH would be fun ride and thats gonna be a view.

Never check my oil temp gauge before.....I shd start doing it and and like you check/top up collant often. The water at the bottom just condensation nothing to worry I think all cars have that.

Just that sometime feels bit scarry the engine bay within is so extremely hot after a normal drive (compared to my previous Jap car). So sometimes feels like installing an "imaginery" aircon to blow at the engine as well as the intake..... . I know its impossible but our little island's weather really too warm sometimes. Car too hot my heart pain lah.....haha.

Re: Feedbacks : For E90 323i - What is your FC?

Sorry to OT abit.

I tink you guys 323 fuel consumption pretty good.

Mine 320 drive from full tank to reserve light pops out, only can manage 430km or less. If talking about KM travelled per Litre of Petrol, my car can only manage 8 to 9.x Km per Litre. Seems pretty bad to me.

But again, my car is running on 19" staggered rims, full M Aero Kit. Only mods now is Arqray muffler nia. Dunno is it got problem anot....

Re: Feedbacks : For E90 323i - What is your FC?

19" rims and still can hit 9km/l is considered good, in my opinion. no worry la :D

Re: Feedbacks : For E90 323i - What is your FC?

Yah I agree with u about the weather....in fact its a combination of the baking tropical weather and traffic jams that take a toll on the engine. Some cars r just not built for sinkapoor roads. Imagine idling for 20-30 mins in temprature of 35-38 degrees.

Its not so bad if the car is crusing even at 70-80kph, but on our PAP roads those speeds on normal hours (i.e. 8am to 11.59pm) are just not possible.

Fortuntaley my ride is parked in shaded car park almost every day...and i drive to and back form work either early in the morn as the sun rises or at night after 8pm when the sun is down so its not so bad.

Yes driving in convoy is the safest. I went for the PML convoy to Kuantuan last year and it was great fun.....i think I may join the AA trips next year.

Thanks for your feedback. At least now i know i am not the only 323i owner with these concerns and we share similar situations....somehow that kinda makes me feel better.

BMW is supposed to be hot after drive. Our normal water temp is around 100deg. Why so worry about driving to Malaysia? Juz be more careful. There are so many E90 in Msia. BMW is supposed to driven hard. The harder u drive it, the responsive the car will be.

Our cars are built to drive long distances, remember this car was designed and intended for long drives in europe. It would be good to stretch ur baby's legs up north, don worry too much bout it. But proper maintenance must be carried out before such long drives.

As for the heat in the engine bay, no worries. Its normal man. Our cars run hotter than japs, nothing to be alarmed about,

Re: Feedbacks : For E90 323i - What is your FC?

OK....after hearing this I feel better liao.

I'd shall try NSH around CNY period.....up north to meet friends in KL.

Thanks bros!

Re: Feedbacks : For E90 323i - What is your FC?

NSH is perfect for your ride especially I6 to clear carbon and run in the engine.
after the trip you may even feel the car is more responsive :)

Re: Feedbacks : For E90 323i - What is your FC?

Hi, this morning when i started my car, although the engine ignited and turned on, the car was not able to move on when i stepped on the accelerator.

There was resistance, like the brake was still engaged, then suddenly with a loud clack sound, the car lurches forward finally and i was able to drive normally.

This has happened approx 5 times in the past 12 months....i checked and the hand brake was off.....has it happened to you before?

I notice it mostly happens in the morning, or after I washed the car the night before...

Thanks

Oh its the brake shoe still in the locked position due to the water and made the brake shoes more sticky. For 320i the handbrake is an independant brake drum unit in addition to the Rear Disc Brakes if Im not wrong. Next time when your car is in for servicing, tell the workshop to service your rear handbrake. Take out and clean it should solve the issue. Not a major issue, easily resolved if cleaned up properly.

Re: Feedbacks : For E90 323i - What is your FC?

Ok many many thanks....er i never had that problem with my previous e90 320i....this only occurred for the e92 323i....

I hop there is no damage to the engine and the brakes??? HAVE I BEEN DRIVING AROUND WITH THE REAR BRAKE ON?

The OBC shows no brakes engaged. If the brake was engaged i should see a warning sign or hear an alarm?

And how does the water make the brake more sticky? Sounds like u had this problem too?

Again many thks for your help?

Im not so sure of the hand brake configuration on the 323, from very limited knowledge, 320, 323, 325 have the same configuration except for 335. If U notice, u try out the handbrakes of 320, 323 and 325, the handbrake when U pull up is very light and have little to no resistance, but on the 335 u can feel the lever is abit heavy and got spring kinda effect.

Its best to get it cleaned and serviced IMO.

As for the OBC or the handbrake engaged light, the sensor is at the handbrake lever area and not at the actual brake assy area near the wheel hub. So when there is no handbrake light on, does not mean the handbrake is confirmed disengaged in your case.

As what I mentioned earlier, do get it checked out. :)

Bro Nightwind, yours a sports car. Vroom, Vroom......high FC worth it. :)

Mine raw, No mod.....only K&N filter dropped in recently. No roof, No M kit.

My info below:

My ride is e90 323i (2006 model)
FC is 15L/100km, or 6.6km/l. (a brand new E90 323i spec says 8.8km/l)
Mileage: 61,000km
Last oil change 1 mth ago.
17" Bridgestone (225/45)
My driving pattern : 70% "start/stop" city driving, only 30% highway.
Full tank 55 litres can only fetch me 370km.

Hi Pandora21

I also have 2006 model of E90 323i. Bought it pre-owned at beginning of this year at mileage of 54,000km. Been monitoring fuel consumption since then and have been averaging anything from 14 - 18 L/100km (like you, mainly city driving with occasional highway driving). I thought something wrong with my fuel consumption compared to factory specs, so good to hear that my experience is not too different from yours and others in this discussion thread.

My current mileage is about 62,000km. Tyre size is 225/45/17.

Someone in this thread mentioned lack of power with 323i. Well, some months ago, I installed BMS Powerbox from Boss Motorsport. Great stuff, really works, significant increase in power (those who did dyno reported about 25 bhp increase). Car is much quicker now, much more fun to drive. Highly recommended, well worth the cost of $1,200 + GST. Not much change in FC.
