final OMV less than quoted by salesman

the situation is that while evaluating the E60 versus another, the OMV came into question as the BMW's was less. my friend bought on the pretext that the difference between the 2 cars was only $2K, however it turns out that the OMV of car is even lesser and the difference has now almost doubled.

given that the car in question was one in stock and identified (final colour) shouldn't the OMV be confirmed, would the salesperson have behaved irresponsibly ?

Re: final OMV less than quoted by salesman

OMV is assessed and determined by Customs.

The salesman should know (or have the ability to verify/confirm) the exact OMV since customs duties and GST were paid and the resulting OMV assessed and determined by Customs.

Re: final OMV less than quoted by salesman

OMV is determined at the time of registration depending on that day's exchange rate. The price of the car is already fixed in Euros$. Our cars are taxed based on the OMV. If the salesperson commited to an OMV figure for registration within certain time frame, anything less, you should get a rebate. Every $1000 OMV dollars is approx. S$2300 on the car selling price.

Re: final OMV less than quoted by salesman

yeah that's what I thought- the salesperson is negligent. looks like a CASE to pursue. anyone have any contacts/references in BMW or PML that would matter ? My friend's first BMW and contact with PML, fingers crossed its not going to be a foretaste of things to come.

unless you have it down in writing, i wouldn't hold my breath...

my saleslady promised a lot of things before sale but didn't/couldn't deliver on some at the end of the day... i'm reminded of this everytime i have to manually tilt my passenger wing mirror down when parking.... GRR....

Scuderia,

OMV is determined at the time when customs duty and GST are paid. This is usually done right away when the car arrives at the port because you can't remove the car from the FTZ/storage place without paying duty and GST. As such, OMV is always determined by the customs. Their 20% duty is subsequently based on the OMV and so does the ARF.

They only remove the car from FTZ after they found a buyer. If not, it will be left there, custom will do the currency conversion and still based on xchange rate on that day of registration.

Re: final OMV less than quoted by salesman

Ok. So much so for assuming that they will remove the cars from the port to their own warehousing facility. Thanks.

Re: final OMV less than quoted by salesman

wouldn't this mean that the cars are left out in the open within the ftz and are exposed to the elements until a buyer is found?
