First Servicing for New F30

I am confused over what should be mileage/period for sending my F30 in for my first service.

It appears from the odometer that the next service is 18,000km, but the idrive shows that the service for oil maintenance is at 8,500km.

Can anyone advise what is the recommended mileage/duration to send the car in for 1st service?

Thanks...;)

Re: First Servicing for New F30

Some say it's recommended to do an oil change after your first 2,000km. Then followed by what the iDrive says.

I sent in my F30 after 2,000km and will be sending it in shortly at 11,000km.

cheers

Re: First Servicing for New F30

For the new turbo-charged engines, my feel is better to change oil at more regular interval like 10k km. BMW recommends 12k which is ok but 10k will give fresh oil to your horse.

Re: First Servicing for New F30

Search through threads, you have got lot of threads on the same subject. What I did with my bimmers is:

1. Change at 2k
2. Then do every 10k!

Re: First Servicing for New F30

Remember to post again when you're about to hit 100,000 km

Re: First Servicing for New F30

Turbo cars every 5K please, especially if you are mostly driving in low gears.

Re: First Servicing for New F30

Thanks everyone for the useful advice.

Does that mean that I will have to do an Oil Change at 8k first, followed by a Maintenance ay 18000k?
Can I do both services together?

Re: First Servicing for New F30

Is the service mileage on the instrument panel a countdown to when service is required? Or do we send for servicing when we hit that mileage?

E.g. if instrument cluster says service 11,000 km, does it mean I can still drive for 11,000 km before servicing?

Re: First Servicing for New F30

As for me I did my first oil change at 1k then every 8k.

Re: First Servicing for New F30

I think this is not correct to change your engine oil for less than few k km. As u know the engine oil is design to last for at least 10k km so u need to understand the lubricantion characteristic effect, u will know engine oil need to kick in for certain km to reach an optimal lubricantous performance. The characteristic is just like a bell shape. New engine oil is very thick in viscosity so is not the optimal performance yet and after certain km then it will reach optimal performance and slowly become thinner and also contaminated. For sure BMW engineer has look into this aspect and recommend to change engine about 12km cycle.

Re: First Servicing for New F30

Depends on what the german engineer uses as a basis for the fuel in his assumptions.

The more the sulphur in the fuel - the shorter the OCI.

I had the same thing too for my 1st servicing. The iDrive prompted me to send for servicing at 8k instead of 10k-12k.
Called my usual tech in PML and he said it is ok to stretched a bit. So I drove to KL and back and waited till I hit 10k plus before sending in.

The only thing is that everytime you turn on engine, you can see the alert telling you Xkm since time to service.
Engine feels like normal. But after 1st servicing, it feels so much smoother and quieter. Had just done by 4th servicing and the car still purrs like a kitten. Loving it!

Take note to buy your own engine oil before you bring in for servicing. PML charge a lot for those and I prefer to use Castrol Edge 5W-40 for every 10k to 12k travelled.

Re: First Servicing for New F30

May I know how much they charge for service with bring in own engine oil? Do u go for the triple service package?
