I called PML to book my very first appt for servicing. The CRO asked for my mileage and I mention 5K, she say no servicing required..so it when you are 11K..so should I believe her..called my SA, similar reply. All new bimmer already run-in..so follow the instruction..who to believe now

Really up to u but better to service every 10k km at least. If u insist to do it early, they will take u in.

Re: First Servicing for new ride

Definitely must change the engine oil after run-in period because there is possibility of impurities and micro metal particles.

1st oil change do it at 2k km, before that during running in period, drive within 3000 rpm, then change oil every 8-9k km. don't believe anyone else if you want tip top engine condition

Any recommended outside workshop for the oil change at 2k, or shd go back to PML?

+1. And driving to KL and back doesn't count as a proper run-in.

Agree. During run-in, we should drive at varying speeds and rpm while keeping the latter below what's recommended in your car's owners manual. I don't believe claims that BMW engines are already run-in when the cars are shipped out of factory. I feel strongly that the car should undergo at least an oil change after 2K km to get rid of possible loose metal particles on a brand new engine. This 1st oil + oil filter change will definitely prolong the service life of the engine.

Any service workshop will be able to do the 2K km oil + oil filter change. Just make sure they are using original bmw oil filters and good synthetic oil.

Re: First Servicing for new ride

There few ways of "running-in/Breaking-in" your engine. The normal way/hardcore way, it can be found if you google.

Even though SA mentioned that all bimmer engine are already run-in. The best thing to do if you want to have a peace of mind, What you can do for your new engine is to change your oil and filter as soon as 2000km, or even at 1000km. Most of the wearing in process happens immediately, it may create a lot of metal in the oil. Don't think you wish to have it in your engine oil till 12,000km?

Just my 0.02cents

Looks like 2k oil change is a must.
Probably go back to PML and put the voucher to good use

Thanks MW. and Also grateful to all bros who replied. Seems like 2k km is a must and run in is a must unlike what SA said.
