Re: Food lobang for HK trip

HK food are generally of high standards, given their critical nature. So, worry not.

For roast goose, the de facto names are Yung Kee and Yue Kee, but I personally think they are over-rated. Alternatives are Wah Fung and Chan Kee.

Wah Fung Restaurant: Ground Floor, 112-114 Wellington Street, Central, Hong Kong
Sham Tseng Chan Kee: Ground floor, 63 Sham Tseng Village, Castle Peak Road, Sham Tseng, New Territories, Hong Kong

For their staple food like noodles, a lot of small cafes offer good beef brisket noodles or wanton noodles. I like Tsim Chai Kee : 98, Wellington Street in Central.

Else, dim sum are everywhere. Must try their Portuguese egg tarts, pineapple bun, porridge.....

HK is dim sum paradise. They are all over, and the standards are pretty good.

My HK friends told me that HKers are typically so critical of food quality once the consensual opinion is formed on a BELOW-AVERAGE food grading, they will not hesitate to spread the words through their social media and magazines.........

Singaporeans will queue for anything and everything, from Punggol Nasi Lemak to Hello Kitty plush toys to free packet of drinks at Raffles Place but when you jio them out, the answer is always.....

"Bro, busy leh."

Re: Food lobang for HK trip

Forget about Yung Kee. The standard has dropped alot. Can't help much as I'm not a goose duck person.

As for egg tarts, the one point on at Central is good. Dim Sum everywhere is good. Try some in Mongkok or Times Sq Causeway Bay. Pretty good. You should also try hotpots 'da bi no' aka our steamboats. They are good too and unlike spore style.

Try openrice.com website. Alot of recommendations there and usually good as used by alot of expats and locals in hk.

W hotel is nice and just next to Elements. Make sure you keep your wife away from that mall. Too many branded handbag/shoes stuff. Make sure you walk over to the skybar in ICC (above Elements) to catch a glimpse of the fantastic view of HK harbour. Place for cool chicks to hang out too.

I can add another list of cool ktvs, massage, bars, pubs, and nightspots.. but let's leave this for another day. It is a family trip to Disneyland for gawd sake! :)
