Hi Guys, just to find out what is your opinnion on the following for those having 50% NCD

a) would you get a NCD protection?
b) what premium are you paying in your renewal?
c) which insurer are you insured with?
d) would you normally make a comparision of premiums before renewal?

Re: For those with 50% NCD......

b) premium differs with age band and type of car and many other factors
c) the preferred insurance company to use once again varies on all the factors... i suggest you approach a General Insurance specialist who will help you do the comparison.

Re: For those with 50% NCD......

Quote for GI insurer now can be tailored.
one company can give u 3 different quotes depends on ur requirement.
50% NCD protector better buy.. now premium all time high.

Re: For those with 50% NCD......

Desmond, would you buy NCD protector for yourself?

a) Yes. At least your NCD will remain at 50% even after 1 claim. Without it, it will straightaway go down to 20%, and it'll take you 3 years to bring it back up to 50%.
b) $1,284.80, including the NCD Protector.
c) Tokio Marine.
d) Yes. Still find that Tokio Marine is the cheapest given my requirements (no IDAC, must offer NCD Protector & be able to go back to agent for repairs), so have been with them for the last 3 years.

Cheers.

Re: For those with 50% NCD......

i would recommend getting NCD protection if you have 50% NCD.
i got my 50% NCD 3 years back and thought that I'm a careful enough driver and decided not to get the NCD protector (couple hundred bucks).
well, i had a minor accident recently and my NCD drops to 20%...
Its quite a pain.

Hi sjlim,

Would it be right to say your age is above 40, driving experience more than 10 years and occupation Indoor?

+1 NCD protector good for pple 50% & u cannot buy if below 50%.

Is not abt ur accident, is abt the model of car u hit - better not be a lambo.

hmmm 23 yrs does not make a different now. Now most impt past 3yrs got accident claim. Just rejected a client 3 accidents in a yr - all companies! Normal rejection is 2 accidents in 3yrs.
Even u age40 without NCD, 23yrs experience, ONLY Authorized wkshop, a Kia Picanto is $1883.43 based on A company !

Re: For those with 50% NCD......

current situation - as i mention above 2 claims in 3yrs is a standard rejection for renewal. Did u make a proper claim on last car??

Re: For those with 50% NCD......

Everything done by the workshops and my insurance company. Not sure if that is properly.

Today, current agent say after appeal can renewal only third party, ~1k, but with a condition to buy personal accident coverage from them..(320+). WTF, buy motor insurance end up having to buy Personal Accident Insurance...

call the main insurance company and ask them how come...no answer. ....

don't bother asking so much here. everyone will have different preferences depending on their financial situation.

This is what I would do:

Step 1. Call iScoupe or Me ( I can get my GI department) to compare which insurer is cheapest for your case & ask for 2 Quotations: With & W/O NCD premium quote

Step 2. Calculate the cost of dropping to 20%.
For eg. If your insurance premium is $4,000 a year now, with 50% discount it would be $2000. Hence, if you were to take the risk, it means you would be paying $3,200 on the 1st year, $2800 on 2nd year and $2400 on the 3rd year before it goes back to 50% which means a total of $1,200+$800+$400 = $2,400

Step 3. Compare this amount (in this case $2,400) with the extra premium you need to pay for the NCD protector.
For example if you need to pay $400 more, it means every 6 years, you can accident 1 time to break even.

Step 4. Weigh your personal risk.
If you feel that you are highly unlikely to Kena every 6 years, then its a bet that you make. It's really your personal confidence in your driving skills. There is no certainty on whether you or the insurance company will win... the world is round.

Step 5. Make a decision and accept what may come.
After choosing the bet, live with it... it's the decision you made so no matter if you have no accidents for 20 years or once every year, don't grumble and complain.

Step 6. React accordingly.
If after a few years and you realize you have been visiting the workshops frequently, then it proves you suck at driving so get the god damn NCD protector.

Re: For those with 50% NCD......

A...Insurance Tell me.

Because of the last claims you have with the company, we will renew your motor insurance (3rd party only) with a compulsory Personal Accidental Policy at $328

I'm considered dangerous driver, and yet they want to sell me a personal accidental policy. lol.
